(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA)- The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) proudly announces a series of robust staffing incentives and referral programs designed to recruit and retain top-tier talent dedicated to fostering academic excellence. With a firm commitment to recognizing and rewarding the exceptional contributions of our staff, DCSD is offering comprehensive compensation incentives to enhance employee satisfaction and attract new professionals to join our diverse educational community.
Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton said that DCSD is committed to creating supportive and rewarding work settings that value employee dedication, significantly enhancing the quality of education and support for our students.
“We want to be a school district of choice for the best and brightest,” Dr. Horton said. “We know that a big part of this is salary, so we have been very intentional in putting together a comprehensive compensation package for professionals at all career levels to show our commitment in this competitive job market.”
The starting salary for a new professionally certified teacher with 0 years of experience is $60,000. With the New Hire Incentive (see below), the total salary for FY25 increases to $62,500. Additionally, the District substantially improved steps 6-16 on the 2024-25 Teacher’s Salary Schedule. The goal is to attract and retain veteran teachers.
DCSD acknowledges the valuable contributions of bus drivers, paraprofessionals, school resource officers, nurses, and other operations specialists, who will receive sign-on bonuses ranging from $2,000 to $2,500.

New Hire Incentives
To attract new talent, DCSD is offering significant incentives for new hires:
- $2,000 for newly hired full-time classroom teachers, bus drivers, school resource officers (SROs), paraprofessionals, nurses, and select operations positions.
- $2,500 for new middle or high school teachers in Math & Science and select special education fields.
Employee Retention Incentive
To express our appreciation for our current full-time employees, DCSD is offering a $2,000 retention incentive. Eligible employees must have been hired on or before June 30, 2024, and continue to work with the district through September 30, 2024. This one-time payment is a token of our gratitude for their dedication and ongoing service.
Exceptional Service Appreciation Incentive
DCSD values longevity and exceptional service. Full-time employees with 25 or more years of service who have reached the top of their salary schedule for at least one contractual year will receive a $1,000 appreciation incentive. This incentive will be distributed on or before September 30, 2024, acknowledging their steadfast commitment to our students and district.
Employee Referral Incentive
DCSD employees can earn $300 by referring candidates to critical fields such as teaching, paraprofessional roles, bus driving, and more. There are additional bonuses for bus driver referrals. This initiative is designed to encourage our current staff to bring talented professionals into the DCSD family.
Meritorious Attendance Recognition Program
Full-time employees with outstanding attendance who use six or fewer days of leave between July 1, 2024, and May 15, 2025, will receive a $250 incentive. Part-time and substitute employees who work at least 650 hours during this period will be eligible for a $150 supplement.
Supplemental 2% Match Program
DCSD offers a supplemental 2% match program to support employee retirement savings. Full-time employees enrolled in TRS or PSERS with continuous service (five years for TRS and two years for PSERS) can benefit from this program, which matches contributions to approved 403(b) accounts.
