(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA) – On October 2, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) released the 2022-2023 lists of Distinguished and Reward Schools, spotlighting many from the DeKalb County School District (DCSD). The Distinguished Schools designation recognizes the highest-performing Title I schools in Georgia, while the Reward Schools designation recognizes Title I schools making the most significant improvements.
Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton praised the DCSD schools that are persevering and succeeding to earn these well-deserved recognitions.
“It is inspiring to see the commitment to academic excellence and student growth nurtured at these outstanding Title 1 schools,” Dr. Horton said. “The dedication and hard work of our students, educators, staff, and the entire school community reinforces our belief that every child can excel when provided with the right support and opportunities.”
State School Superintendent Richard Woods agreed. He said, “The schools on these lists have made significant efforts in overcoming barriers, meeting challenges, and producing great gains for their students. I applaud the 2022-23 Distinguished and Reward Schools leaders, teachers, parents, and communities for creating opportunities for student success.”
Distinguished Schools are among the highest-performing 5% of Title I Schoolwide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools based on the combined ELA and math content mastery scores from the statewide assessments of the most recent year. DCSD schools earning recognition are:

- Dekalb Early College Academy
- Laurel Ridge Elementary School
- Livsey Elementary School
- Robert Shaw Theme School
- Wadsworth Magnet School for High Achievers
Reward Schools are among the greatest-improving 5% of Title I Schoolwide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools when comparing the content mastery scores from the most recent two years of statewide assessments. The DCSD schools recognized for this achievement are:

- DeKalb Agriculture Technology and Environment School
- DeKalb Elementary School of the Arts
- DeKalb PATH Academy Charter School
- Dunaire Elementary School
