SkillsUSA and HOSA members place in state leadership conferences
Students enrolled in DeKalb County School District’s various Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs are making waves across Georgia and beyond.
Various DCSD students enrolled in SkillsUSA and the Health Operations Student Association (HOSA) have earned state titles for Georgia in various categories and gained entry into national competitions in Kentucky and Florida.
The annual SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference and Competition was held March 21-23 at the Georgia International Convention Center. More than 160 students from DCSD participated in the competition, which tests student knowledge in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including project management.
DCSD competed well in such categories as Building Maintenance, Industrial & Engineering Technology, Natural Resources, Job Skills Demonstration, Occupational Health & Safety, Outstanding Chapter, Masonry, Web Design, Communication Skills, and more.
25 students from Cross Keys High and DeKalb High School of Technology South claimed first-place finishes and qualify for the National SkillsUSA Conference, scheduled for June 24-28 in Louisville, KY.
Other participating schools with second- and third-place finishes included Miller Grove High School and Warren Technical School.
The annual HOSA State Leadership Conference and Competition was held March 14-16 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. DCSD had more than 120 participants in the competition, which tests students on health science, biomedical science, job-related training, and more.
DCSD students demonstrated exemplary knowledge knowledge in such categories as Interviewing Skills, Speaking Skills, Medical Reserve Corps Partnership, Community Awareness and Life Support Skills.
A total of 13 DCSD students from three DCSD high schools have qualified for the HOSA International Leadership Conference scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida, on June 19-22, 2019.
