Two DeKalb County School District (DCSD) achieved significant wins at the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) Film Festival held on March 14 during the annual APBS conference in St. Louis, Missouri. These recognitions were all thanks to Cedar Grove Elementary School winning in the “School Engagement – Elementary” category and Tucker High School being awarded the “Instruction – High School” category. Votes from APBS Film Festival attendees determined both wins.

The APBS Film Festival showcases and celebrates the efforts of schools and organizations in promoting Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) through film, emphasizing the positive impact of these initiatives on students’ lives and engagement. This year’s theme was “Bridging Relationships & Positivity.” Students had to create films demonstrating the core PBIS principles in two film categories—instruction and school engagement.

Cedar Grove Elementary’s film showcased the school’s S.A.I.N.T.s Paradise initiative, which encourages students to be Supportive, Active, Independent, Noble, and Trustworthy (SAINT). Students who embody the qualities of a “Super Saint” are rewarded with time in “Saints Paradise,” a room filled with games and activities where they can relax and enjoy time with their friends.

Tucker High’s film highlights the school’s behavior expectations, particularly in the cafeteria. The school uses its mascot, Tiger, to inform students of these expectations: Timeliness, Integrity, Safety, Engagement, and Respect.

DCSD, the Division of Wrap Around Services, and the PBIS Team for Student Relations congratulate these talented young filmmakers on their outstanding achievements!
