Georgia Department of Education honors 25 seniors
Twenty-five DeKalb County School District (DCSD) high school students received special recognition this month from the state’s leading authority on education.
State Superintendent Richard Woods and the Georgia Department of Education announced the 2019 Georgia Scholars, with 25 DCSD graduating seniors—hailing from seven high schools—on the list.
Through the Georgia Scholar program, the Georgia Department of Education identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life. Students eligible for Georgia Scholar recognition are high school seniors who exhibit excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities, and in the home.
“We are pleased, but not surprised, that this illustrious list of DeKalb County School District high school students is being recognized by the Georgia Department of Education and State Superintendent Woods,” said Superintendent/CEO Dr. R. Stephen Green. “These 25 students have exceeded expectations not just in the classroom, but in the DeKalb County community at large, setting a tremendous precedent for their promising futures. On behalf of the entire school district, I offer them sincere congratulations.”
Georgia Scholars are students who carried exemplary course loads during their four years of high school; performed excellently in all courses; successfully participated in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities; and assumed active roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools. Each Georgia Scholar receives a seal for his or her respective diploma.
