Five DeKalb County Schools Honored with
National College Success Award

 

(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA)—Five schools in the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) have earned the prestigious College Success Award for 2024, acknowledging their outstanding efforts in preparing students for college. This award, granted by the nonprofit organization GreatSchools, recognizes public high schools that excel in helping students enroll in college and succeed in their higher education endeavors.

The five DCSD schools receiving this national honor are:

“I congratulate these outstanding schools on this well-deserved recognition,” said DCSD Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton. “As you can see, our schools do much more than teach. Across our District, we are committed to guiding and supporting our students for success in their post-secondary educational and career goals.”

The College Success Award recognizes schools that effectively help students navigate the college enrollment process and encourage their continued education, especially for those from low-income backgrounds. The five DCSD schools are among an elite group of 104 public schools in Georgia to receive this award.

This marks the sixth time that both Arabia Mountain High School and DeKalb School of the Arts have earned the College Success Award.

GreatSchools is a leading nonprofit organization that provides families with valuable resources to help them access high-quality education. Its College Readiness Rating measures how well high schools equip students for college and careers, comparing them to other schools across the state. The rating considers factors such as graduation rates, college entrance exam performance (SAT/ACT), and participation in advanced courses like International Baccalaureate (IB), dual enrollment, and Advanced Placement (AP), along with AP exam passing rates.
