Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Before each year of college, you will need to use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans. Your college uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility, and many states and colleges use FAFSA data to award their own aid.

Many scholarships are merit-based, where a student’s skill or ability such as high grades is the main criterion for eligibility.
