Hardship Transfers
A hardship application for the DeKalb County School District must be for a true hardship beyond the control of the student, their parents, and the school.
The following guidelines should be reviewed before filling out a Hardship Transfer form:
- Have you tried to resolve the issue with:
a. The principal or administrative staff at the current school?
b. The area superintendent or school’s counselor? - Documentation is required verifying the student cannot be served in his or her home school. Extenuating (hardship) circumstances may include: a documented medical condition, a court-ordered transfer, or police documented school safety issues (personally) impacting the student requesting a transfer. Attach additional page(s) if necessary.
- Hardships received without documentation substantiating your hardship will not be considered for approval.
- Reasons for dissatisfaction with the school or its performance will not be approved.
- Please be aware that transportation will not be provided. Additionally, in each transfer decision, DCSD must always consider school capacity.
- Please be advised that Hardships received without documentation substantiating your hardship will not be considered for approval. Narratives are not considered documentation. All approval/denials will be communicated via email.
