Hardship Transfers

A hardship application for the DeKalb County School District must be for a true hardship beyond the control of the student, their parents, and the school.

The following guidelines should be reviewed before filling out a Hardship Transfer form:

  1. Have you tried to resolve the issue with:
    a. The principal or administrative staff at the current school?
    b. The area superintendent or school’s counselor?
  2. Documentation is required verifying the student cannot be served in his or her home school. Extenuating (hardship) circumstances may include: a documented medical condition, a court-ordered transfer, or police documented school safety issues (personally) impacting the student requesting a transfer. Attach additional page(s) if necessary.
  3. Hardships received without documentation substantiating your hardship will not be considered for approval.
  4. Reasons for dissatisfaction with the school or its performance will not be approved.
  5. Please be aware that transportation will not be provided. Additionally, in each transfer decision, DCSD must always consider school capacity.
  6. Please be advised that Hardships received without documentation substantiating your hardship will not be considered for approval. Narratives are not considered documentation. All approval/denials will be communicated via email.
