Engagement Opportunities
Student Assignment is a process that aligns the values of the community and District to assign students to schools and programs, review boundary lines, and determine school opening or closing.
Call to Action
Upon graduation, ALL students should be positioned to Enroll, Employ, engage in Entrepreneurship, or Enlist. We must ensure that all families have equitable opportunities to access rigorous academic experiences and eliminate barriers so that families can actively participate in their children’s education.
The SAP advisory committee will triangulate data from multiple sources. This will include (a) community and district stakeholders, (b) enrollment and projection data, and (c) operation and finance data to develop recommendations that meet the vision.
This diverse committee will use several decision-making processes to reduce emotional drivers and elevate critical thinking, sound decision-making, and analytics.
It’s time to REIMAGINE DCSD for all of our students!
We Need You
You can be part of this historic work and promote positive change for students across the District. We need teachers, parents, community partners, and leaders to be critical partners throughout the Student Assignment review process.
Together, we can develop a comprehensive Student Assignment system that meets the needs of all students.
Committee Vision
Under the leadership of Dr. Devon Horton, we are excited about the continued improvement of educational outcomes for all children through an intentional approach that REIMAGINES DeKalb County School District. The REIMAGINING includes thoroughly reviewing the District’s policies, programs, boundaries, and building usages. DeKalb has addressed some of these aspects at one time or another, but this is an opportunity to review all aspects of the entire District holistically.
Time Committment
SAP will take place over about 18 months to 2 years, with the intent to have a recommendation for Board approval in the winter/spring of 2026. Committee members should expect a commitment to one monthly meeting, with some potential for additional participation in public discussions, including town halls and informational sessions. In addition, committee members will engage with research and data and should be prepared to provide feedback in developing recommendations. This may require time outside of meetings to review information and reflect.
