Every day, the schools of DeKalb County School District are bursting with activities that supports college and career readiness. Twice a month, we’ll share that news in TRUST in the Schoolhouse. Below are some examples of that work.

Columbia Elementary School
Columbia Elementary’s esteemed group, Boys to Bowties, will perform during Black History Month program on Friday, Feb. 17, Westside High School in Anderson, South Carolina.
DeKalb Academy of Technology & Environment Elementary & Middle Charter Schools
DATE Charter school launched its Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) Mobile Bus on Feb. 1. The STEAM Mobile Bus will travel throughout Metro Atlanta to provide hands-on learning expedition field trips to students in early childhood development programs in communities where such an experience does not yet exist.
Henderson Middle School
The Henderson Middle School CougarBots competed in the First Lego League Robotics Super Regional Tournament on Jan. 14, one of 32 teams from across metro Atlanta to do so. The CougarBots were awarded a trophy for their robot design. The team members included Vikram Sehgal, Ashley Romero, Jacqueline Romero, Candler Evans, Sabir Young and Alexia Graves.
Kingsley Elementary School
The OshKosh B’gosh Corporation selected Kingsley Elementary School as the only metro Atlanta school to receive $25,000 in Donors Choose teacher projects. The funds will be used to purchase technology and instructional materials for teachers and students. A team from OshKosh , including numerous professional athletes, came to personally deliver the items to each classroom.
Dr. Ronald E. McNair Middle School
Ian Kennel, music and choral teacher at Dr. Ronald E. McNair Middle School, was awarded instrumental accessories for his classroom by the DonorsChoose.org team. Mr. Kennel received the following items:
• One Cajon Mediano
• One Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe
• Two 12-pair oak drum stick wood tip
• One plastic 36-piece egg shakers
• Three solid American hardwood wood blocks
