Statement Concerning the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act School List
November 27, 2024
The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) was notified this afternoon that the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) will be publishing a list of schools that meet the criteria of the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act on their website today. Signed into law in 2024, this $140 million program offers eligible students the option, beginning in fall 2025, to use public funds for non-public education expenses from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
GOSA explained that the list of qualifying schools was compiled by averaging the single score calculations from the 2023 and 2024 academic years, using component scores provided by the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE). A total of 45 schools within the DeKalb County School District are included in the attached document.
“Vouchers do not necessarily lead to improved academic performance,” said DCSD Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton. “Over the past year, we have worked diligently to rebuild relationships with our parents and have implemented numerous programs and initiatives to strengthen our schools. The DeKalb County School District also offers our students a wide range of excellent in-county educational options through our Student Choice Program. Recent positive results from state and national assessments show that DCSD is making significant progress in improving student academic performance.”
Late applications for DCSD’s School Choice Program will be accepted from January 3-17, 2025. For more information on this program, visit dekalbschoolsga.org/school-choice/
