Dear DeKalb County School District Families,
The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) was notified that some parents received a Notice of Data Breach letter from a company called PCS Revenue Control Systems, Inc.
This letter states that their child’s name, student identification number and date of birth were potentially exposed to unauthorized access during a data breach in December 2019. Credit monitoring services were offered as a result. The letter also explained that there was no evidence that information was accessed or used for malicious purposes. Notice is being provided at an abundance of caution.
DCSD used Advanced Business Technology (ABT) for several years to support the district’s school nutrition program. The district has not used ABT’s services since the 2016 – 2017 school year. According to the letter, ABT was acquired by PCS Revenue Control Systems, Inc. in 2016.
It is important to note that the school district has not experienced a breach of the district’s technology infrastructure or systems related to this matter. The district was informed of this incident on Thursday, March 25, 2021, through parents who received these letters. In addition, the district has learned that this notification letter has been distributed to parents in multiple school districts nationwide.
DCSD will continue to investigate this matter and is asking for more details from the company responsible. We will provide an update as soon as that information becomes available.
