DeKalb County School District joined the Latin American Association (LAA) of Atlanta on March 17 to celebrate the opening of a new learning hub at LAA. Like the district’s Mobile Impact Learning Hub, LAA’s learning hub is equipped with computers, information about colleges and trade schools, and more.
“DCSD is committed to academic excellence and partnering with community organizations to provide new opportunities to marginalized students and families. We thank LAA for its partnership and commitment to DCSD scholars and families,” said Superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris.
The space is dedicated to helping students and families find a pathway to a university or technical school and exploring scholarship options. It is supported by a grant from The New Teacher Project (TNTP), a national nonprofit that works with hundreds of school systems across the country.
“When I came to Georgia, I lived in Doraville and went to Cary Reynolds Elementary in DeKalb. I know the meaning of growing up in a community filled with rich cultures, hard workers, and loving families. The purpose is to empower Latino students and families to access and succeed in higher education and career options after high school graduation. With the opening of the learning hub, we hope to accomplish these goals and much more,” said Ana Flores of LAA.
The learning hub is located at LAA’s Atlanta Outreach Center, 2750 Buford Highway in Atlanta.
