After Winning a Second Consecutive State Title
Sarv Dharavane, the remarkable 11-year-old fifth-grader from Austin Elementary School, will have another chance to compete for the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships after winning the 64th Annual Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee, achieving his second consecutive state title.
Sarv secured this victory after an impressive 14 rounds of competition. In the last round, he correctly spelled “Berghaan” and “Compas” to clinch the state title, overcoming seventh-grader Sara Daoud from Greenbrier Middle School in Columbia County.
Both students will represent Georgia at the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships, which will take place in National Harbor, Maryland, from May 26 to May 30, 2025.
Interestingly, Sarv said after his victory that when he received the word “Compas,” his mind flipped rapidly through the dictionary.
“About 50 options came to mind,” he said. “But after asking for the appropriate information, I began spelling, and the next thing I heard was, ‘That is correct.’ I couldn’t believe it! I’m sure these next two months will fly by.”
In addition to the first-place trophy, Sarv received an all-expenses-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee and a $1,000 cash prize. He also won an Apple iPad Mini, a $50 gift card to Best Buy in Cumming, GA, an online subscription to a dictionary, a one-year online subscription, a 2025 U.S. Mint Proof Set, and a GAE Bee Champion lapel pin.-expenses-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee and $1,000, an Apple iPad Mini, a $50 Best Buy gift card, an online subscription dictionary, a one-year online subscription, one 2025 U.S. Mint Proof Set, and a GAE Bee Champion lapel pin.
