Books, books, and more books – 2,000 books in fact…and all of them FREE! Global technology company, Wipro Ltd., delivers book-filled backpacks to the smiling, happy children of Brockett Elementary during a special event on May 12 at the school.
Wipro executives placed three books each in brand new backpacks for every one of the school’s 500 students. Following the presentation ceremony, Wipro volunteers read aloud from such smile-inducing favorites as “We’re All Wonders,” “Should I Share My Ice Cream?” and “Pete The Cat.”
“What a generous gift to our children,” said Superintendent R. Stephen Green later that day. “We wish all our students a wonderful summer filled with fun, relaxation, adventure, excitement, and yes, learning. We know these books will provide many hours of enrichment to the students of Brockett Elementary.”
The celebration was attended by several local dignitaries including Tucker Mayor Frank Auman, State Senator Steve Henson, Board of Education member Jim McMahan, Brockett Principal Vanessa Bines-Truitt, and representatives of business partner First Book.
“We have a strong presence in Atlanta, and are happy to be engaged in a meaningful program that benefits our local community,” said Anurag Behar, chief sustainability officer at Wipro. “Our hope is that our reading-focused efforts at Brockett Elementary will help make an impact on these students’ learning during the critical summer months.”
