The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) celebrated its most outstanding educators and support staff on November 2 at the 11th Annual Academy of Educational Excellence Awards Gala at the Georgia World Congress Center.
The event paid tribute to all school-level employees of the year for their remarkable contributions, culminating in the announcement of five exceptional Districtwide winners. These extraordinary leaders are:
- Teacher of the Year – Latalia Robbins, Smoke Rise Elementary School
- Principal of the Year – Dr. Susan Stoddard, Lakeside High School
- Educational Support Professional I of the Year – Nicole Jones, John R. Lewis Elementary School
- Educational Support Professional II of the Year – Tera Reid, Eagle Woods Academy
- District Office Educational Support Professional of the Year – John “Q” Kegler, Communications Department
Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton praised these honorees and their colleagues for the significant strides the District has made over the past year.
“As I look back over this past school year and look at what the district has been able to accomplish, I can go on and on about the success of individual teachers, individual schools, areas, and collectively as a district,” said Dr. Horton.
“Collectively, we are making some significant moves and significant noise in the K-12 space, and it is because of the individuals sitting in this room,” Dr. Horton adds. “We appreciate all that you do.”
The annual gala celebrates the hard work, dedication, and successes of DCSD’s educators and support staff. From pioneering innovative teaching methods to providing exceptional leadership and behind-the-scenes support, these individuals have enormously impacted DCSD’s mission to deliver quality education.
The 11th Annual Academy of Educational Excellence Awards Gala was sponsored by Coca-Cola, Georgia United Credit Union, Herff Jones, Lincoln Investment, Lowe&CO, and Voya.
