As part of the rebranding efforts for Pine Ridge Elementary School, we are forming a School Naming/Renaming Committee to guide the process and ensure community involvement. Pine Ridge Elementary is a direct feeder to both Stephenson Middle School and Stephenson High School, and aligning its mascot and colors with these schools will strengthen the connection between students, families, and the broader community. This change will create a greater sense of consistency, school pride, and unity for scholars as they transition through the feeder pattern, reinforcing their sense of belonging and identity.
Proximity of Feeder Schools
Pine Ridge Elementary, Stephenson Middle School, and Stephenson High School are all located within a one-mile radius of each other, creating a close-knit educational community. By unifying school branding, we strengthen students’ sense of continuity from elementary through high school and increase community engagement and school spirit among families in the area.
Current School Mascots & Colors
- Pine Ridge Elementary School – Mascot: Panthers | Colors: Red & Black
- Stephenson Middle School – Mascot: Jaguars | Colors: Royal Blue & Black
- Stephenson High School – Mascot: Jaguars | Colors: Royal Blue & Black
Committee Details & Meeting Schedule: In accordance with DeKalb County School District guidelines, this committee will:
- Consist of 11-15 members, including teachers, parents, community members, elected officials, and school
- Conduct three virtual meetings to discuss, evaluate, and finalize
- Facilitate community input through ThoughtExchange to ensure transparency and
- Submit the final recommendation for Board approval on May 12,
Tentative Virtual/Meeting Dates (Wednesdays at 6:00 PM):
- Meeting 1 – Initial committee meeting & ThoughtExchange launch
- Meeting 2 – Review survey results & gather stakeholder feedback
- Meeting 3 – Finalize mascot and colors & prepare Board recommendation
