The DeKalb County School District (DCSD), the largest public provider of Pre-K education in Georgia, is excited to celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week from October 7 to 11. DCSD will join the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and school districts across the state to highlight the critically important work of our Pre-K educators during this special week.
State legislators from DeKalb County will join DCSD Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton and several district leadership team members to spend the week reading to DCSD Pre-K students. DCSD has also published a video celebrating Georgia Pre-K Week and read a proclamation to commemorate the week.
“Every child, including our babies, deserves a quality education, and our district is proud to offer that to our Pre-K students,” said Dr. Horton. “Our goal and responsibility must be to offer all our students a comprehensive and proper education and provide programs for our little ones that promote their physical, behavioral, and cognitive development.”
Georgia Pre-K Week was established in response to the 2009-2010 recession when the Georgia Legislature almost cut the program due to funding issues. Since then, Voices for Georgia’s Children and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning have organized a yearly week-long celebration of Georgia’s Pre-K Program.
Georgia Pre-K Week provides an opportunity for legislators and leaders throughout the state to visit Pre-K classrooms in their local communities, read a children’s book to the students, and engage with early education firsthand.
