SCHOOLS CLOSED- STATE OF EMERGENCY
Mar 31 all-day

Out of concern for the safety of our students and Atlanta-area motorists, DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will cancel all classes on Friday, March 31, 2017.

**Twelve-month employees only should report to work.**

The collapse of a portion Interstate 85 northbound near Georgia 400 on Thursday evening is expected to significantly impair travel in DeKalb County and for DCSD school buses, leading to traffic delays. By taking its buses off the road, the district hopes to reduce its impact on the roads on a day where many drivers will be forced to take alternate routes.

“After careful evaluation, the district has determined that it will not be able to transport students to and from school efficiently given the transportation event this evening,” said Superintendent R. Stephen Green. “With one day before Spring Break begins, the prudent decision is to keep students at home, and not contribute to difficult travel conditions.”
DCSD will be on Spring Break on April 3-7. For updates related to DCSD, families are encouraged to visit www.dekalbschoolsga.org.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: All Schools & Administrative Offices Closed
Sep 11 – Sep 14 all-day

All schools and offices in the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will remain closed on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017. Employees are not to report to work.

“Safety is key. Right now, there are several challenges that present a potential threat to our students such as buildings and homes without power, and fallen power lines and trees. We remain hopeful to reopen our schools and offices soon, but not at the expense of our students and staff,” said R. Stephen Green, DCSD superintendent/CEO. “We are thankful to the numerous DCSD staff members that have worked tirelessly to remove debris, secure our campuses and restore our capacity.”

Progress is being made in preparing to reopen schools. Approximately 32 DCSD campuses remain without power as of noon today. By comparison, 62 campuses were without power at a similar time Tuesday. Also, significant issues such as fallen trees on school roofs and fallen trees persist.

In the meantime, a state of emergency has been declared across DeKalb County. Teams of DCSD employees have been assessing the status of schools and working with appropriate organizations to reopen schools as quickly and safely as possible.

DCSD will continue to announce updates via its website at www.dekalbschoolsga.org and through its mobile app and accounts on Facebook and Twitter
