The Dunwoody Wildcats exploded for 23 runs in the first inning of a 27-0 Region 4-5A baseball win over the Decatur Bulldogs at Dunwoody on Wednesday evening.
Wildcat pitcher Ryan Davies set the Bulldogs (3-10, 2-4) down in order in the top of the first inning before Dunwoody took all control of the game in the bottom of the inning.
The Wildcats sent 27 batters to the plate in the first inning producing 23 runs on 11 hits coupled with four walks, two hit batters and three Bulldog errors.
Big blasts in the inning came off the bats of Alec Koehly (grand slam) and Miles Thayer (2-run homer) to account for six of the runs in the opening inning. Zach Pauling and Caleb Hamilton both stroked two-run singles in the inning as all nine batters went to the plate three times in the inning.
Another 1-2-3 inning by Davies in the top of second brought the Wildcats back to bat with an entire new lineup. Dunwoody added four more runs in the inning keyed by a two-run double down the left field line by Davies. Micheal Renals followed with an RBI double, and Blondheim singled to right to score Renals for the final of 27-0.
The No. 8 ranked Wildcats improved to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in Region 4-5A play with the victory.
Koehly led the hitting, going 2-2 with five RBI followed by Miles Thayer 3-3 with four RBI and Caleb Hamilton 2-2 with four RBI. Zach Paulling finished 2-2 with three RBI and three runs scored from the leadoff spot in the batting order.
Ryan Davies picked up the win for the Wildcats with three hitless innings despite allowing Decatur to load the bases on two walks and an error in the top of the third inning.
