A 3-0 victory by the Druid Hills Red Devils over the Cross Keys Phoenix in the boys’ Region 5-4A nightcap as Adams Stadium on Tuesday night gave Druid Hills a sweep on the night.

The two teams battled for 18 ½ minutes before Druid Hills (6-2, 4-0) broke through on a 25-yard shot from the right wing into the top left corner of the net by Harding Weidman and Red Devils never trailed the rest of the way.

Druid Hills outshot the Phoenix 7-5 in the opening half as both goalkeepers played well in goal. Druid Hills Wyatt Bennett had two saves following Wiedman’s goal as the Phoenix (4-3, 1-2) turned up the pressure in the final 20 minutes of the opening half. One of the saves was on a free kick by Cross Keys that was head on and he knocked it down.

Cross Keys keeper Andres Parra put up five saves against the one goal allowed with four of the saves coming before Weidman put the ball in the net. Parra had his final save at the 7:15 mark of the first half to help keep the Phoenix within striking distance down just 1-0 at the half.

Druid Hills opened the second half pressing against the Cross Keys defense including one shot that bounded off the left post of the goal. The Devils finally got one in the net as Eh Soo found the goal to give Druid Hills some insurance at 2-0 with 28:43 to play in the game.
