The Stephenson Jaguars battled to a 41-37 win over the Druid Hills Dragons to remain the only undefeated boys' middle school basketball team.

The Stephenson Jaguars battled to a 41-37 win over the Druid Hills Dragons to remain the only undefeated boys’ middle school basketball team.

The Stephenson Jaguars continued their undefeated run before the Holiday break with a 41-37 win over the Druid Hills Dragons in Region 1 middle school basketball boys’ basketball last weekend at Stephenson.

It was a highly contested game with Stephenson (8-0, 5-0) holding a 24-23 halftime lead behind eight points from Mason King. The Jaguars would hold off the Dragons (6-2, 3-2) for the win. King finished with 14 points for the Jaguars and Terry Coleman added 13. RJ Rogers pulled down nine rebounds for the Jaguars.

The Dragons were led by a game-high 22 points from Phillip Claybrooks.

BOYS RECAPS
Peachtree 39, Beacon Hill 33
The Peachtree Patriots (6-2, 5-0) remained in a three-way tie atop the Region 2 standings with a hard fought 39-33 win over the Beacon Hill Bulldogs (4-4, 2-4) at Decatur. Cody Krieger hit for a game-high 19 points to lead the Patriots and Carter Daigle added seven points. The Bulldogs got 10 points from Max Davis and seven from Max Eidsvik.

Henderson 44, Sequoyah 11
The Henderson Cougars (6-2, 5-0) kept pace at the top of the Region 2 standings with a 44-11 road victory over the Sequoyah Braves (0-8, 0-5). Zale Jackson knocked down 14 points to lead the Cougars and Eric Maskery added four points and four rebounds. Joysbear Castro led Sequoyah with nine points.

Redan 45, Columbia 18
The Redan Raiders (7-1, 4-1) extended their win streak to five games with a 45-18 win over the Columbia Eagles (2-6, 1-4) to keep a spot in the three-way tie for second in Region 1. Dalemontae McCulum had a big night with a 32-point, 10-rebound performance for the Raiders. Benjamin Jackson grabbed 12 rebounds and Demon Thompkins scored six points for Redan.

Stone Mountain 39, Freedom 29
The Stone Mountain Pirates (5-3, 4-1) won a third consecutive game by knocking off the Freedom Rams 39-29 to be part of a three-way tie for second in Region 1. Robert Frazier was the top scorer with 16 points (2 blocks, 2 steals) and Timothy McMiller added 11 points (3 rebounds, 2 steals) in the win.

Champion 50, Chamblee 36
The Champion Chargers (6-2, 5-0) kept a spot in the three-way tie in Region 2 with a 50-26 victory over the Chamblee Bulldogs (4-4-2-3) at Chamblee on Saturday. Dillon Brown led a trio of Chargers in double figures with 15 points (3 rebounds) followed by Kameron Lyles with 14 points (5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block) and Brayden Sanders with 13 points (2 rebounds, 3 steals).

Chapel Hill 48, Miller Grove 43
Since losing a tough battle with the Stephenson Jaguars just over a week ago, the Chapel Hill Panthers (6-2, 4-1) have now won two in a row following a 48-43 home win over the Miller Grove Wolverines (5-3, 2-3). After getting out to a 32-18 lead at the half the Panthers had to overcome a furious third quarter rally by the Wolverines who would cut the score to five points late in the game. Amari Stocks was the top scorer for the Panthers with 12 points (5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) while Noah Kirkland (2 steals, 3 blocks) put together a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Zion Pruitt (4 steals) and Mason Cobble (4 assists) added nine points each for Chapel Hill.

Bethune 33, McNair 24
The Bethune Lions (5-3, 2-3) snapped a three-game skid by taking a 33-24 road win over the McNair Mustangs (0-8, 0-5) last weekend. Raiden Floyd led the Lions with 15 points and Jordan Franklin added nine points and 14 rebounds.

Cedar Grove 43, Salem 40
The Cedar Grove Saints (5-3, 4-1) have quietly put together a four-game win streak to hold onto the fourth place spot in Region 2 following a clutch 43-40 road win over the Salem Lions (1-7, 1-4). Two Saints were in double figures led by Camrin Gee with 17 points (5 steals) and Chase Thomas with 12 points (4 rebounds, 4 steals).

In other action on Saturday, the Lithonia Bulldogs (1-7, 1-4) picked up a 24-21 overtime win over the Tucker Tigers (0-8, 0-5). In a make up game on Monday the Chamblee Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3) knocked off the Lithonia Bulldogs (1-7, 1-4) 43-33.

GIRLS RECAPS
The Champion Lady Chargers and Cedar Grove Lady Saints both remained undefeated and tied for first in the Region 2 standings with victories on Saturday with the teams on a collision course on Wednesday in the last game before the holidays.

Champion (8-0, 5-0) kept their undefeated mark intact with a 45-10 road win over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3) on Saturday. Madison Digs (7 steals) and Noel McCrae led Champion by hitting in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Rakiah Miller (7 rebounds) added eight points and Nkechi Ugboaja (7 rebounds) added seven more in the win.

Cedar Grove (8-0, 5-0) stayed neck-and-neck with Champion with a 43-18 road win over the Salem Lions (5-3, 3-2). Ziryah Bell (7 assists, 7 steals) produced a big 20 points for Cedar Grove while Jessica Morton (8 points, 2 blocks) pulled down 21 rebounds while holding Salem to just eight points in the second half.

Chapel Hill 47, Miller Grove 6
The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (7-1, 5-0) held on to the top spot in Region 1 with a 47-6 home win over the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (5-3, 2-3). Londyn Nolley (5 assists, 7 steals) delighted the home rans with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double. Faith Andrews (3 steals, 5 assists) hit for 14 points and Marisah Thomas (4 steals) added 10 points to join Nolley in double figures for the Panthers.

Bethune 39, McNair 3
The Bethune Lady Lions (7-1, 4-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season last week with a 39-3 road victory over the McNair Lady Mustangs (3-4, 2-2) to remain in a three-way tie for second in Region 1. Jalisa Kelly fueled the win with a 12-point, 8-rebound performance.

Columbia 44, Redan 17
The Columbia Lady Eagles (6-2, 4-1) retained a spot in the three-way tie for second in Region 1 with a 44-17 decision over the Redan Lady Raiders (1-7, 1-4) to extend their win streak to four games. Moriana Williams (4 steals, 3 assists, 2 rebounds) led all scorers with 21 points for Columbia and teammate Maliyah Elliot (5 assists, 3 rebounds) joined Williams in double figures with 15 points. Kailey Stroud (2 assists) led Redan with five points and Naziyah Wilson (2 points) contributed six rebounds.

Druid Hills 43, Stephenson 33
The Druid Hills Lady Dragons (4-4, 4-1) kept pace with Bethune and Columbia in second place in Region 1 via a 43-33 road win over the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (3-5, 2-3). Madison Evans had a game-high 18 points for Druid Hills and Saniya Wright added nine more. Stephenson had Eries Drake and Ava Gilreath in doubles figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Sequoyah 24, Henderson 5
The Sequoyah Lady Braves (2-6, 1-4) claimed their first Region 2 win and second overall victory of the season with a 24-5 home win over the Henderson Lady Cougars (0-8, 0-5). Heaven Daniel was the game’s leading scorer with 13 points and Jade Thornton added eight points for the winners.

Beacon Hill 33, Peachtree 25
The Beacon Hill Lady Bulldogs (6-2, 4-10 solidified third place in the Region 2 standings with a 33-25 home victory over the Peachtree Lady Patriots (2-6, 1-4). Leighell Lucas led Beacon Hill with 13 points while Juliet Janke and Zola Vander Els added nine points each. Peachtree was led by a game-high 15 points from London Whitfield.

Freedom 25, Stone Mountain 8
The Freedom Lady Rams (2-6, 1-4) broke a three-game losing streak with a 25-8 road triumph over the Stone Mountain Lady Pirates (0-8, 0-5). Fatuma Kasike led the team with 10 points and Marcelline Samya added nine points in Freedom’s first region victory. Amarie Jackson had six points to lead Stone Mountain.

In other action from Saturday, the Tucker Lady Tigers (3-5, 2-3) picked up a 19-5 road victory over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3). In a make-up game from earlier in the season the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3) defeated Lithonia 23-7. Lithonia’s Serenity Jackson scored seven points.
