Druid Hills and Stephenson, both in Region 1, are the only remaining undefeated DeKalb middle school boys’ basketball teams following games this past Saturday.
The Druid Hills Dragons (6-0, 3-0) remained atop the Region 1 standings with a 51-26 region win over the Columbia Eagles (1-5, 0-3) last weekend. Phillip Claybrooks led the way with a game-high 24 points for the Dragons in the win.
Stephenson (6-0, 3-0) led by as much as 27 points in the third quarter before holding off a big rally by the defending county champions Chapel Hill Panthers (4-2, 2-1) for a 47-36 Region 1 win to keep pace with Druid Hills atop the standings.
King Abrams scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half as the Jaguars led 24-12 at the half. Stephenson continued to build on the lead in the third quarter going up by 27 before the defending champs went on a 24-0 run to cut the lead to three in the fourth quarter.
Let by Terry Coleman, who was 12 of 15 from the free throw line as he had a game-high 26 points (4 assists), the Jaguars hit clutch free throws down to the wire to hold off the Panthers. RJ Rogers played a key role for the Jaguars with four points, eight rebounds and three blocks in the game. Amari Stocks (10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals) and Jeremiah Byrd (8 points, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block) led the way for the Panthers.
BOYS RECAPS
Stone Mountain 37, Miller Grove 35
The Stone Mountain Pirates (3-3, 2-1) moved into a four-way tie for third in the Region 1 standings with a thrilling 37-35 upset of the previously unbeaten Miller Grove Wolverines (5-1, 2-) on Saturday. Robert Banks hit for seven points and Robert Frazier added five in the win.
Henderson 53, Lithonia 38
The Henderson Cougars (4-2, 3-0) are riding a four-game win streak after an 0-2 start to the season following a 53-38 win over the Lithonia Bulldogs (0-5, 0-2) to move into a three-way tie for first in Region 2. Jacob Miller led the scoring for the Cougars with 15 points in the win while Jake Davis (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Ari Shapiro (10 points) also played big roles in the victory. Jamaree Evans finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Bulldogs.
Champion 56, Beacon Hill 24
The play of Kameron Lyles and Devin Brown propelled the Champion Chargers (4-2, 3-0) to a 56-24 victory over the Beacon Hill Bulldogs to move into a three-way tie in Region 2. Lyles hit for 15 points (4 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals) and Brown added 13 points (8 rebounds) for the Chargers. Hugh Ohlandt scored 10 points to lead Beacon Hill.
Peachtree 41, Salem 24
The Peachtree Patriots (4-2, 3-0) matched Henderson and Champion atop the Region 2 standings via a 41-24 win over the Salem Lions (0-6, 0-3). Kaiden Horton (16 points) and Cody Krieger (12 points) spurred the Patriots to the win. Denoris Owens hit for a game-high 18 points to lead the Lions.
Redan 36, Bethune 25
The Redan Raiders (5-1, 2-1) knocked off the Bethune Lions (4-2, 1-2) 36-25 to move into a four-way tie for third in the Region 1 standings. Dalemontae McCallum scored 15 points in the win and Jervontae Barber added eight more. Jordan Franklin had a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Bethune.
Cedar Grove 36, Tucker 32
The Cedar Grove Saints (3-3, 2-1) evened their record and moved into a two-way tie for fourth place in the Region 2 standings following a hard fought 36-32 win over the Tucker Tigers (0-6, 0-3). Zyon Freeman hit for seven points (8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block) and Chase Thomas matched Freeman with seven points (3 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals) for the Saints. Bennisson Iranzi scored a game-high 12 points to lead the Tigers.
Chamblee 49, Sequoyah 15
The Chamblee Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1) moved to over .500 on the season with a 59-15 Region 2 victory over the Sequoyah Braves (0-6, 0-3). T. Koegan led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Kaiden Corn was the Braves leading scorer with seven points.
Freedom 42, McNair 28
The Freedom Rams (3-3, 1-2) pulled their overall record to .500 as they defeated the McNair Mustangs (0-6, 0-3) 42-28 in Region 1 action on Saturday. Adrian Graves led all scorers with 15 points (4 assists) and Jah’Mere Hudson added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Rams. Success Holder contributed nine points and Makia Roland added seven points and five steals off the bench. Stephon Johns led the Mustangs with six points.
GIRLS RECAPS
Three girls’ middle school basketball teams kept their slates clean at 6-0 this past weekend as the season edges closer to the holiday break.
Champion and Cedar Grove are tied top the Region 2 standings while Bethune is tied with one-loss Chapel Hill in Region 1.
The Champion Lady Chargers (6-0, 3-0) survived a 35-34 scare against the Beacon Hill Lady Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1) as they rebounded a potential tying free throw with 8.7 seconds to play to seal the win. Madison Diggs (14 points, 9 steals) hit a jump shot with 40 seconds to play to give Champion the lead. Nkechi Ugboaja (8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks), Rakiah Miller (5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals) and Noel McCrae (4 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists) contributed to the win. Juliet Janke led Beacon Hill (tied for third) with 11 points while Leighellen Lucas and Stella Rucker hit for seven points each.
Cedar Grove (6-0, 3-0) matched Champion to remain at the top of the Region 2 standings with a 49-2 region win over the Tucker Lady Tigers (2-4, 1-2) on Saturday. Ziryah Bell hit for a game high 19 points (6 assists, 8 steals) and Melania Davis joined her in double figures with 12 points. Jessica Morton added 9 points (11 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Nevaeh Thompson was a stalwart on defense with 9 steals.
The Bethune Lady Lions (6-0, 3-0) are the final remaining undefeated girls’ team following a 59-11 Region 1 victory over the Redan Lady Raiders (1-5, 1-2). Wilihia Edwards (4 points, 5 steals) and Naziyah Wilson (2 points, 5 rebounds) led Redan in the loss.

Chapel Hill 41, Stephenson 11
The defending county champion Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (5-1, 3-0) remained in a tie for first in the Region 1 standings with a 41-11 win over the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (2-4, 1-2). Faith Andrews led the way with a game high 21 points (4 assists) and Londyn Nolley had a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double. Stephenson was led by Ava Gilreath with five points.
Columbia 27, Druid Hills 24
The Columbia Lady Eagles (4-2, 2-1) rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit to knock off the Druid Hills Lady Dragons (2-4,2-1) 27-24 in Region 1 action. Mariona Williams led the way with 11 points (5 steals) and was joined in double figures by Maliyah Elliot with 10 points (3 assists). Kamora Collier was tough under the goal with 10 rebounds (4 points). Madison Evans and Makayla Bolden both scored six points for Druid Hills.
McNair 21, Freedom 14
The McNair Lady Mustangs (2-4, 1-2) picked up their second win of the season as they upended the Freedom Lady Rams 21-14. Marcelline Samya hit for six points and Fatuma Kasike added five for Freedom.
Lithonia 28, Henderson 11
The Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1) earned their third win of the season by defeating the region foe Henderson Lady Cougars (0-6, 0-3) 28-11. Serenity Jackson led the way with 10 points for Lithonia and Cionnie Hills pitched in eight points.
Miller Grove 50, Stone Mountain 8
The Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (5-1, 2-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 50-8 triumph over the Stone Mountain Lady Pirates (0-6, 0-3). Jalayah Jackson had seven points to lead Stone Mountain.
Other games included Salem (4-2, 2-1) defeating Peachtree (2-4, 1-2) 39-11 and Chamblee (3-2, 1-1) winning 18-7 over Sequoyah (1-5, 0-3).
