The inaugural DeKalb County Schools Elementary County Track Championships title was captured by Barack Obama Elementary by just 4.5 points over Laurel Ridge recently at Godfrey Stadium.
Participants advanced from the District Championships a week earlier bringing in 247 individuals and featured 166 relay teams competing for medals in boys, girls and mixed events to get a combined score for each team.
Obama captured four total medals (2 gold, 2 silver) with several Top 8 finishers along the way to put together the 66.5 points for the win. Laurel Ridge topped the team medals chart with seven (2 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze) in totaling 62 points while Fernbank finished third with five medals (4 silver, 1 bronze) for a 59-point combined score.
Stone Mill had a meet leading four gold medals with a total of six (2 bronze) and Narvie equaled Stone Mill’s total of six (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) and Rainbow was tied for second with Narvie with three gold medals.
Fernbank and Flat Shoals topped the list with silver medals with four each with Laurel Ridge capping off the bronze list with four followed by Bob Mathis and E.L. Miller with three bronze medals apiece.
