Six big DeKalb versus DeKalb region matchups top the Week 8 schedule in DeKalb County Stadiums this weekend as teams continue to jockey for playoff spots.
The first all-DeKalb meeting happens on Thursday night at the Miller Grove Wolverines (3-3, 0-0) and Redan Raiders (2-4, 0-0) collide for just the seventh time and the first since Redan’s 26-19 win in 2019. Redan holds a 3-2-1 lead in the tightly contested series.
It is the first Region 6-2A game for both squads with the winner getting the jump on reaching the playoffs. Redan is coming off an open date while the Wolverines try to bounce back from a loss at Greene County on Saturday It is Miller Grove’s homecoming on Thursday.
Friday’s games feature three all-DeKalb region games set for 7:30 pm kickoffs. Adams Stadium plays host to a Region 5-4A contest between the Druid Hills Red Devils (2-4, 1-3) and the Tucker Tigers (4-1, 3-0).
Tucker leads the series 9-6-1 overall as the teams meet for the first time since 1991 with the Tigers owning four-game win streak. Druid Hills last won in 1973 by a score of 22-19 and won the first four meetings in the series that was first played in 1950.
Southwest DeKalb (3-3, 2-2) hosts the Lithonia Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1) for homecoming at Hallford Stadium on Friday in the 21st meeting between the two DeKalb teams in a Region 5-4A collision. The Panthers hold an 18-2 lead in the series, including the last 11 meetings of the series that was first played in 1970. Lithonia’s last win was a 12-7 decision in the 2002 season.
The Dunwoody Wildcats (1-5, 0-3) and the Arabia Mountain Rams (1-5, 0-3) have a Region 4-5A date on Friday at North DeKalb Stadium as both try to end losing skids. Arabia Mountain owns a 2-0 mark over the Wildcats as the teams meet for the first time since 2013.
The fifth all-DeKalb region matchup has the defending Class 3A state champions Cedar Grove Saints (1-4, 1-1) hosting the Stephenson Jaguars (3-3, 1-1) for homecoming that will play a big role in both teams’ playoff hopes on Saturday at Godfrey Stadium at 2:00 pm.
The two perennial playoff teams have not played since 2017 with the Saints holding a two-game win streak in the series Stephenson leads 5-3 overall. It is also the first meeting that neither team was ranked.
A final all-DeKalb region contest is set for Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium as the Chamblee Bulldogs (0-5, 0-2) host a homecoming tilt with the Lakeside Vikings (4-2, 3-0) at 2:00 pm. The series is tied at 11-11 with the Bulldogs holding a nine-game win streak. Lakeside last won 24-0 in 1978 and the teams did not play during the 1980s and 1990s.
There is one other homecoming games this week as Cross Keys (0-4) hosts Creekside Christian Academy (2-3) on Thursday at 7:00 pm at Adams Stadium.
