A rainy night in Georgia turned into a pair of wins for DeKalb County football teams Tucker and Lakeside after their games were moved up a night due to impending severe weather being brought into the Atlanta area by Hurricane Helene.

Helene has forced the postponement of 14 DeKalb games scheduled for Thursday (3) and Friday (11) with new dates and times to be announced.

Tucker (4-1, 3-0) used four turnovers by the Northview Titans (0-6, 0-4) to roll out to a 41-0 halftime lead on the way to a 47-6 final in the Region 5-4A contest at North DeKalb Stadium.

Tucker’s Lashaun Hudgins pounced on the first turnover of the night on Northview’s third play of game giving Tucker the football at the 10-yard of the Titans with less than a minute gone in the game.

Quarterback Jace German wasted no time in getting the Tigers on the scoreboard with 10-yard touchdown run on a keeper on the Tigers first offensive play of the game. Eli Ffrench hit the PAT for a 7-0 Tucker advantage.

On Northview’s next possession a third down pass was tipped and Joziah Horner got in front of Titan’s receiver Cade Zeman for what would turn into a 40-yard pick-six for the Tigers’ second touchdown of the night. Ffrench was again good on the PAT for a14-0 Tucker lead with 10:15 left in the opening period.

Ffrench made the Titans pay on their next possession as the Tigers forced a punt that Ffrench ran back 27 yards to the Northview 10-yard line. Two plays later Izayah Horsham got round the left end and aided by a block from receiver Jayden Joiner got into the end zone with 5:58 to play in the first period. Ffrench again connected on the PAT for 21-0 Tucker lead.

Tucker got its third turnover of the quarter as a Northview fumble ended up the hands a Tucker defender at the Northview 16-yard line. German finished it off on the first play with a 16-yard touchdown run. Lance Harwell tacked on the extra point for 28-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

Camryn Freeland added a 22-yard touchdown run and German threw to the flat for Christian Ema who raced into the end zone for the final score of the half. Harwell hit one of the two extra points to give Tucker the 41-0 halftime lead.

Tucker’s last score came on a 33-yard touchdown run by DeAndre Blackburn with 2:26 left in the third quarter as the Tigers began emptying the bench in the second half. The PT failed as the lead ballooned to 47-0.

Northview got on the board via a Drew Beane 19-yard keeper around the left side for the lone score of the night for the Titans as the final horn sounded.

Lakeside 14, Tri-Cities 6
The Lakeside Vikings jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and held off the Tri-Cities Bulldogs 14-6 to remain undefeated in a Region 4-5A on the wet field at Adams Stadium on Wednesday.

Senior quarterback Kyle Davis scored both Vikings’ touchdowns via the quarterback sneak from one yard out to build the lead. Noah Lanford tacked on a two-point conversion as the Vikings (4-2, 3-0) were up 14-0 with four minutes left in the first quarter.

The rest of the night belonged to the Vikings’ defense which yielded the lone touchdown. Daniel Arzabe pounced on a pair of Bulldog fumbles and Spencer Wise got a third against the Bulldogs’ offense.

Lavarus Johnson sealed the win late in the fourth quarter with key interception. Next up for the Vikings I the Chamblee Bulldogs next week as Lakeside is poised to lock up a state playoff berth for the first time since 2015.
