Fans were witness to some exciting middle school football games in DeKalb County this past weekend.

DeKalb County middle school football fans were treated to some thrillers during Week 5 action that went down to the wire.

The Redan Raiders and Stephenson Jaguars engaged in a game that went down to the finals seconds as Redan (5-0, 3-0) pulled out an 8-6 Region 3 win over the Jaguars (1-3, 1-1) at Cobb Stadium to remain undefeated on the season.

Stephenson scored early to take a 6-0 as Peyton Key took the rock 81 yards to the house before the game settled into an intense defensive struggle.

Redan tied the game on a Jevonte Barber touchdown run with six seconds on the game clock. Demario Hopkins punched in the two-point conversion to give the Raiders the 8-6 victory.

Cam Livsey ran for 105 yards for the Jaguars while Rico Rodgers led the defense with nine tackles, including three sacks. Regi Knight added six tackles and Leland Walker had an interception.

Lithonia 8, Champion 6
The Lithonia Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0) stopped a two-point conversion by the Champion Chargers (3-1, 0-1) to preserve an 8-6 Region 2 victory at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday.

With game tied 0-0 in the third quarter, Lithonia’s Willie Jones Jr. hooked up with Darrin Priest for a 25-yard pass play to the Chargers’ 12-yard line. On the next play Jones scrambled to the right, turned up field and went the final 12 yards for the go-ahead score. Jones hit Chaheed Banks for the two-point conversion pass for the 8-0 margin heading into the fourth quarter.

Kaejean Fitzgerald (55 yards rushing/5 tackles) scored for the Chargers to pull them within two. The Bulldogs’ defense led by a linebacker trio of Timothy Behling, JaMaurie Evan and Zacarri Smith, all with six tackles in the game, held on the two-point attempt to seal the win.

Champion’s defensive effort was led by Dralen Hinton (7 tackles, 2 pass breakups) along with Steven Lewis (4 tackles, 2 sacks) and Christopher Smith (2 tackles, 2 sacks).

Tucker 6, Salem 0
A solid defensive effort by the Tucker Tigers (2-2, 1-0) helped seal a 6-0 Region 2 win over the Salem Lions (1-3, 0-1) on Saturday at Adams Stadium.

Key stops on third and fourth down late in the game, including a key interception by Jaiden Lovett, helped the Tigers seal the win.

Jaylen Bogues had a big day running the football for the Tigers, including the game’s only score, and sealed the win by getting lose for a 30-yard gain on fourth down with a minute to play.

Cedar Grove 46, Bethune 0
The Cedar Grove Saints (4-0, 2-0) rolled to a 46-0 Region 4 victory over the Bethune Lions (1-3, 0-2) in the second game at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday.

The Saints got three touchdowns from Zack Bell and Naeem Jones collected two touchdown passes to lead the offense. The defensive shutout was led by Rashad Welcome, and Landon Carnahan while Antravious Howard Jr. and Josiah Ashmon each picked off a pass in the game.

The win coupled with Chapel Hill’s come-from-behind victory over Miller Grove sets up what could be the deciding game in the Region 4 title chase as the two teams collide at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday at 9:00 am.

Chapel Hill 22, Miller Grove 14
The Chapel Hill Panthers (5-0, 3-0) rallied from 14-6 third quarter deficit to pull out a 22-14 Region 4 win over the Miller Grove Wolverines (1-3, 1-1) at Cobb Stadium on Saturday.

The teams were tied 6-6 at the half and the Wolverines took a 14-6 lead with four minutes to go in the third quarter before the Panthers mounted their comeback.

The Panthers answered with Ramello Jackson touchdown and a two-point conversion by Matthew Brown to tie the game at 14-14. Makai King ended a Wolverine drive with an interception at the Panthers own 10-yard line. Chapel Hill marched 90 yards to take the lead on a King touchdown and a Jackson two-point conversion to up 22-14.

Brown clinched the win with an interception to stop the Wolverines last chance.

Druid Hills 30, Columbia 6
The Druid Hills Dragons (2-2, 2-0) remained undefeated in Region 3 play with a 30-6 victory over Columbia Eagles (2-3, 0-3) at Adams Stadium on Saturday.

The Eagles lone score came on a Demarco Cody touchdown pass to Trishton Grier.

The win sets up a showdown with undefeated Region 3 leader Redan (5-0, 3-0) on Saturday at Hallford Stadium with kickoff set for 10:30 am.
