The second week of DeKalb County middle school football featured six squads improving to 2-0 on the season headlined by four shutout victories.

Region 3 co-leader Columbia upped their mark to 2-0 with a 26-0 shutout of the Stone Mountain Pirates on Saturday at Cobb (Avondale Stadium).

Demarco Cody led the way for the Eagles with two rushing touchdowns against the Pirates (1-1) who suffered their first loss of the season. Vincent Gilbert added a six-yard touchdown and Mon’Travis Lankford put the game away with a 65-yard touchdown run. The Eagles recorded their second shutout of the season on the defensive side.

Redan 12, Miller Grove 0
The Redan Raiders moved to 2-0 on the season with a 12-0 victory over the Miller Grove Wolverines (0-2) at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday.

Benjamin Jackson scored both touchdowns for the Raiders. The defense picked up its second shutout victory led by Anthony Barclay with two sacks in the game.

Chapel Hill 28, Stephenson 0
The Chapel Hill Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 28-0 victory over the Stephenson Jaguars (0-2) in a contest played at Cobb (Avondale) Stadium on Saturday.

Jakire McGee got the Panthers off and running with an 85-yard scoop and score with 3:20 left in the first quarter. Ramello Jackson ran in for a touchdown to cap a seven-play, 48-yard drive (all on the ground) with 5:00 remaining in the first half. The Panthers then took advantage of a mishandled punt to get good field position to set up a touchdown pass from Latevious Booker to Makai King to make it 22-0 at the half.

Chapel Hill’s defense forced three turnovers to complete the second consecutive shutout of the season and the Panther’s first victory over Stephenson since 2010 (18-6).

Lithonia 34, Chamblee 10
Timothy Behling had a big day for the Lithonia Bulldogs in leading them to a 34-10 win over the Chamblee Bulldogs (1-1) to improve to 2-0 with the victory at Hallford Stadium on Saturday.

Behling opened the game with an electrifying 77-yard kickoff return and followed up with a 34-yard touchdown reception and another long strike on a 74-yard touchdown run. Willie Jones Jr. threw for two touchdowns including the one to Behling and ran for another in the game. Defensively, Lithonia got sacks from Lamar McIniss, Prince Winder and Javeon Harriegan to go with an interception by Tristian Hickson.

Chamblee got a safety by Mason Crabtree and a second half kickoff return for a touchdown from Maurice Sykes. Three turnovers proved hard to overcome despite the play of Marquis Jackson with several big runs and passes but Chamblee could not get the football into the end zone.

Champion 46, Sequoyah 0
Marcus Green and Aiden Clark both accounted for two touchdowns to lead the Champion Chargers to a 46-0 win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-2) at Adams Stadium on Saturday.

Green passed for 92 yards and 1 touchdown and rushed for another while Clark rushed for 62 yards and two scores in the Chauncey Henderson, Braylen Golden and Malachi Franklin also scored touchdowns in the win. The defense put together a team effort in its second shutout of the season.

Cedar Grove 44, McNair 6
Zack Bell and Antravious Howard Jr. both had a hand in three touchdowns for the Cedar Grove Saints on the way to a 44-6 win over the McNair Mustangs (0-2) at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday.

The Saints improved to 2-0 as Bell threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third and Howard ran for two touchdowns and added a 75-yard kickoff return. The defense was led by lineman Jaiden Mincey with five tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.

Salem 8, Freedom 6
The Salem Lions rallied past the Freedom Rams with a fourth quarter touchdown and two-point conversion to even their season record at 1-1 in the win at Hallford Stadium on Saturday night.

Anthon’e Harrell (8 carries, 72 yards) scored Freedom’s go-ahead touchdown with 2:30 to play in the first quarter. DeJuan Grier had 10 total tackles including three for losses for the Rams defense that held the lead until four minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Henderson 21, Tucker 6
Jaiden Jackson scored three touchdowns to lead the Henderson Cougars (1-1) to a 21-6 victory over the Tucker Tigers at North DeKalb Stadium on Saturday.

Penalties proved costly for the Tigers (0-2) as Jaylen Bogues returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the game only to have one called back on a penalty.

Bethune 22, Druid Hills 2
Bethune scored 14 unanswered points as the Lions knocked off the Druid Hills Dragons 22-2 at Adams Stadium on Saturday.

The Lions took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and Druid Hills picked up a safety on defense to trim it to 8-2 before Bethune extended the lead to 16-2 at the half. Bethune (1-1) sealed the win with a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter against the Dragons (0-2).
