A 3-0 sweep of the Ware County Gators propelled the Chamblee Bulldogs into the Class 5A Boys’ State Tennis Playoffs Sweet 16 joining the Lady Bulldogs who opened the doubleheader at Chamblee on Tuesday.
The No. 1 doubles team of Gunnar Hagen and William Hackney made quick work of their Ware County counterparts, JV Manabat and Tyler Monroe with a relatively easy 6-0, 6-0 straight set win to give Chamblee a quick 1-0 advantage in the state tournament match.
Chamblee upped its lead to 2-0 behind a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles by Jacob Dorland over Ware County’s James Willingham. Dorland fell behind 0-2 in the second set and went on a 6-1 tear against Willingham including two breaks to go up 5-3. He then served out the match for the win.

Landon Marcus rallied in the first set following a break that dropped him into a 2-2 tie with Ware’s William Bates to win the set 6-2 on the way to a straight set victory of his own. Marcus broke Bates’ serve in the next game of that first set and went on a 4-0 run, including another break, to win it 6-2.
The No. 2 doubles team of Kai Henderson and Kavi Pallan were up 6-1, 1-0 on Nick Simmons and Cash Carter when Marcus ended the match. Chamblee’s Alex Coursey and Ware’s Isaiah Collins were in just their third game when the match ended.
Chamblee moves on to the Sweet 16 and will play host to Northgate, a 3-0 winner over Ola, in its first round match.
