A 1.575-point margin separated the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats (98.350) and Druid Hills Lady Red Devils (96.775) as Dunwoody captured its first DeKalb County Girls Gymnastics Championship since 2011 on Saturday at Dunwoody.
Two-time defending champion Chamblee finished third (91.500) followed by Lakeside (90.375) and Stephenson (84.575) to round out the top five finishers. Dunwoody jumped from a third-place finish in 2022 to first for their eighth title overall while Druid Hills finished second for the third time in the past four championships.
Dunwoody was led by Tabitha Johnson who finished third (33.050) in the All-Around and Clara Biggs who finished fifth (31.750) in the All-Around. Biggs won the uneven bars gold medal with a score of 8.400, just .050 ahead of All-Around champion Nyla Loyd (8.350) of Stephenson.
Johnson added a silver in the floor exercise (9.00) and a bronze in the vault (8.700). Evie Leish won silver in the balance beam (8.350) to add to the Lady Wildcats’ total.
Druid Hills was led by Esther Bryant who collected a silver in the vault (8.800) and tied for silver in the uneven bars (8.350). She also brought home a bronze in the floor exercise (8.750). Bryant also picked up the silver in the All-Around (33.750).
Chamblee’s finish was led by a sixth-place finish in the All-Around by Lillian Zaidel (31.550) and Rachel McGuiness with a bronze in the balance beam (8.300) and a fourth place in the vault (8.650).
Lakeside used a pair of sixth place finishes by Diane Willis in the vault (8.400) and the floor exercise (8.275) to get to fourth in the team standings.
Nyla Loyd’s gold in the All-Round included wins in the vault (9.000), balance beam (8.700) and floor exercise (9.425) keyed Stephenson’s fifth place finish. Loyd was second in the uneven bars. She finished just 1.725 points ahead of Druid Hills’ Esther Bryant.
