The Stephenson Jaguars offensive line led the way to second consecutive game of over 300 yards rushing in a 55-20 Region 6-4A victory over the Miller Grove Wolverines on Friday night at Hallford Stadium to move alone atop the region standings after three weeks of play.

Senior left tackle Bryce Favors and junior left guard O’Shea Stroman anchor the line with three sophomores in center Marcus Andrews, right guard Brandon Perkins and right tackle Matthew Rowland that keyed an 189 yard rushing and three touchdown performance by Devin Ingram who carried the football 21 times in the game.

Ingram had touchdown runs of one yard and five yards to sandwich a six-yard touchdown run by Cheik Keita as the Jaguars jumped out to a 21-0 lead with 11:15 left in the first half. Etsomfa Elavero hit all three PATs along the way.

The Jaguars (5-2, 3-0) scored with 37 seconds left in the half to go up 28-0 as Marte Barton connected on an 11-yard score with Denver Jones. Elavero again hit the PAT.

Ingram opened the third quarter racing 52 yards for his third touchdown with 10:44 to play with Elavero hitting his fifth PAT to make it 35-0.

Miller Grove (4-4, 1-2) scored touchdowns on a Keshawn Weathers kickoff return after Ingram’s touchdown and a 30-yard run by Ta’Jon Corbitt to cut the lead to 35-14 with 8:10 left in the third quarter. Sydina Muhammad hit both PATs for the Wolverines.

Stephenson answered with 11:45 to play in the game as Kaleb Bristow returned a pick-six 65 yards to up the lead to 42-14 (Elavero PAT good).

Weathers had a 35-yard touchdown reception from Chancellor Allen to close the gap to 42-20. Stephenson would go on to add a touchdown run by Elijah Edwards and a touchdown pass from Barton to Trent Fields to wrap up a 55-20 win.

Cheik Keita added 90 yards rushing and a touchdown on eight carries.

Cedar Grove 42, Douglass 0
Quarterback EJ Colson threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints to a 42-0 victory over the Douglass Astros in the Region 5-3A opener at Hallford Stadium on Wednesday night.

Demarcus Smith opened the scoring for the Saints (5-2, 1-0) with a three-yard run with 8:58 to play. A Colson to Barry Jackson 46-yard pass play set up the opening scores.

Colson would play a hand in the next three touchdowns as the Saints took a 28-0 lead at the half. Colson had a five-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter and then with six seconds left in the opening period he hit Devin Carter on a 22-yard touchdown pass for a 21-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

A 20-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Lee put the Saints up 28-0 at the half.

Cameron Foley recovered a blocked punt in the end zone with 6:57 to play in the third quarter and Colson added a 26-yard touchdown pass to Miami Jones with 1:41 left in the third to make the final of 42-0. Amari Forte was 4-4 on PATs and Christian Orozco was 2-2.

McNair 44, Redan 41
Sedarian Williams scored on a 30-yard run with 1:26 to play and Malachi Jackson’s interception with less than a minute to play sealed a thrilling 44-41 Region 5-2A win over the Redan Raiders at Avondale Stadium on Friday night.

The fourth quarter featured five lead changes and McNair (4-4, 2-2) was trailing 41-38 after Redan, who trailed 14-0 in the first quarter, rallied and took its third lead of the game with 3:05 remaining.

Redan (2-6, 1-3) led 15-14 at the half and 22-20 early in the fourth quarter when the two offenses took control of the game.

Williams finished with over 200 yards of total offense with game-winning touchdown and another receiving score. Quarterback Jeremy Victor had two touchdowns passing, one each to Williams and Jackson, a rushing touchdown and accounted for over 250 yards of offense.

Jackson had the game sealing interception, his second of the game, to go with seven receptions and touchdown receiving.

McNair’s four wins are the most in 10 years. The Mustangs went 4-6 in 2012.
