The Clarkston Angoras are 2-0 on the Druid Hills Middle School course this fall as they ran to a 23-39 win over the Druid Hills Red Devils on Tuesday (Sept. 6).
Clarkston placed seven runners in the Top 10 to capture the win over Druid Hills which put three in the Top 10 to account for all 10 of the first runners to cross the finish line.
Owen Blount led the way for Druid Hills with a first-place finish in 17:47.85 followed by Clarkston’s Abenezer Woellore (17:55.53) and Yoseph Beserat (18:01.60).
Ethan Berryman of Druid Hills was fourth (18:15.32) but Clarkston answered with three consecutive runners in Claude Tusiime in fifth (18:22.44), Jean Paul Iraasubiza in sixth (18:55.85) and Abdul Mahamat in seventh (19:19.08).
Jack Cole finished eighth (19:33.19) to be the final Druid Hills runner in the Top 10. Clarkston’s Mengesha Alebachew was ninth (19:33.28) and Amani Diedonne was 10th (19:39.64).
Chamblee finished third with 113 pints led by Duke Nichols in 14th (20:06.38). Dunwoody was just behind the Bulldogs in fourth with 116 led by Parks Rohletter in 12th (19:46.23).
Chamblee (39) finished ahead of Lakeside (48), Druid Hills (73), Dunwoody (75), Stephenson (160) and Tucker (175) to take the girls team victory.
Druid Hills made it a clean sweep in the first varsity races of the day as Harley Martz (20:17.80) won the girls’ race for the Red Devils. She was followed by Lakeside’s Alex Sellers in second (21:00.87) and Dunwoody’s Ronnie Amrani in third (22:24.53).
Chamblee grabbed the next two spots as Talley (22:55.70) and Paige Pendleton (23:29.88) gave the Bulldogs two top 10 finishes. Lakeside’s Tristan Linscott in sixth (24:05.27) and Haley Davis in seventh (24:05.47) made the race close.
Martin Luther King’s Morgan Hughes (24:16.32) was eighth and Indie Shuler of Druid Hills took ninth (23:43.53).
The Bulldogs then had the next six finishers starting with 10th place by Reagan Kuehne (24:59.93) followed in order by Hannah Stewart (25:06.76), Madeline Heron (25:24.55), Grace Nichols (25:27.03), Lydia Traynelis (26:09.28) and Abby Barnes (26:16.11).
Second Varsity Race
The Southwest DeKalb girls and Lithonia boys captured the team titles in the second varsity race at Druid Hills Middle School on Tuesday.
Six Lady Panthers finished in the Top 10 to wrap up a 19-40 win over Stone Mountain in the team standings of the girls’ race. Southwest DeKalb was led by a first-place finish by Janiya McCoy (25:24.40). She was followed by Stone Mountain’s Amiyah Wyatt (29:22.42) and then four teammates crossed the line.
Jamea Lindley was third (29:56.55) and followed in order by Jakyria Baker (31:45.74), Kaila Wimes (32:32.18) and London Durden (34:03.06). Brooklyn Scrubb was the final Top 10 runner from Southwest coming across ninth (34:46.77).
Other Top 10 finishers were Arabia Mountain’s Destiny Saladin in seventh (34:08.91), Towers Shaniye Reynolds in eighth (34:24.78) and Stone Mountain’s Brooke Crouch in 10th (37:15.13).
Lithonia had three of the Top 10 finishes in the boys’ race to be the only team qualifier and finishing with 15 points. Redan’s Loddrick Scott crossed first (20:23) and teammate Jmaria Drumwight (21:18) was second as unregistered runners.
Innocent Bembetem of Towers was third (22:28.75) and followed in order by the three Lithonia runners Chase Lawrence (22:34.96), Kyanau Chatman (22:36.59) and Phillip Howard (23:12.45).
Redan had two more runners finish in the Top 10 including Zmaarvian Green in eight (23:14) and Justin Ballard (24:54).
Miller Grove’s James Akins was seventh (23:12.50) and Towers second Top 10 finisher was Alexander Thomas in ninth (23:50.60).
Junior Varsity
Clarkston claimed boys’ race in the junior varsity event (2 mile) placing five runners in the Top 10 to claim their second race of the day at Druid Hills Middle 23-32 over Chamblee.
The Angoras got a one-two finish from Nathaniel Cason (10:30.79) and Caleb Koerber (13:03.91) to jump start the win. Other Clarkston runners in the Top 10 were Gromyko Curry in fifth (13:59.14), Mohammad Kanteh (14:35.70) in seventh and Daniale Seyfu in ninth (14:58.56).
Chamblee had four runners in the Top 10 including a three-four finish by Brian Parker (13:40.59) and Decklin Chin (13:45.72). Ethan Wiess was sixth (14:11.46) and Taveon Reed was 10th (15:12.97).
Martin Luther King’s Brandon Williams rounded out the Top 10 with his eighth-place finish (14:56.49).
Southwest DeKalb also took a win in the junior varsity girls’ competition 15-45 over Chamblee sweeping the first five places.
Autumn Cook (11:58.26) was first followed in order by Anna Bray (12:02.07), Colleen Hutcherson (13:17.67), Ashlee Couseillant (13:42.77) and Kendra Brewer (14:01.34). Southwest’s Kennedy Zachery was seventh (15:48.48).
Tucker’s Mia Huhtanen broke up the Southwest run in the Top 10 finishing sixth (14:24.63). Arabia Mountain’s Amiyah Keel-Harris was eighth (17:48.40) followed by Lakeside’s Amelia Bell (18:05.70) and Chamblee’s Lucy Osborne (18:22.49).
