Champion girls were one of three teams to improve to 6-0 on the season with wins this past Saturday.

A 47-6 victory over the Columbia Lady Eagles pushed the Champion Lady Chargers to 6-0 on the season joining Chapel Hill as the only teams at 6-0.

The duo of Charmaine Owens (13 points, 4 rebounds) and Chance Alexander (12 points, 7 rebounds) top scorers for the Chargers in the win. Lauren Chavis contributed on both ends of the floor as well with 6 points, 8 steals and 6 assists. Champion leads Region2 with a 4-0 mark in the standings. Columbia fell to 4-3 on the season in the non-region matchup.

GIRLS RECAPS
Miller Grove 40, Redan 18
The Miller Grove Wolverines got another big night from Bailey Canty on the way to a 40-18 Region 3 win over the Redan Raiders (3-3, 2-2). Canty hit for a game-high 21 points and Kaeslyn Benjamin added 7 for the Wolverines (5-1, 2-1) as they moved into second place in Region 3. Kaylan Whitfield led Redan with 6 points and Aubri Brooks added 5.

Stephenson 33, Chamblee 25
Kamryn Larkin hit for 12 points to lead the Stephenson Jaguars to a 33-25 non-region win over the Chamblee Bulldogs. Stephenson (4-2, 2-2) got 6 points from Sarah Okorowanta as six players scored four or more points in the game. Chamblee fell to 4-2 on the season but are 3-0 in Region 1 play.

Tucker 28, Druid Hills 23
Kassidy Manning had 15 points to aid a big come-from-behind 28-23 victory by the Tucker Tigers over the Druid Hills Dragons (1-5). Tucker improved to 3-3 on the season with the win. Andrea Akwete added 6 points for the Tigers.

Peachtree 32, Stone Mountain 8
The Peachtree Patriots improved to 5-1 on the season with a 32-8 win over the Stone Mountain Pirates. Taniyah Jenkins led the way for the Patriots with 14 points and Kazimiera McLoughlin added 7. Stone Mountain fell to 0-7 on the season.

Henderson 25, Sequoyah 8
The Henderson Cougars improved to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in Region 1 with a 25-8 win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-5, 0-4). Sequoyah’s Rasheeda Shabazz did not make it easy for Henderson as her tenacious defense and four points led Sequoyah. Aaliyah Walker also contributed a big night defensively for Sequoyah with three forced turnovers against Henderson in the fourth quarter.

Bethune 23, McNair 21
The Bethune Lions edged the McNair Mustangs 23-21 in a Region 4 battle. Bethune improved to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the region. McNair fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the region.

BOYS RECAPS
Tucker and Redan both moved to 6-0 in boys’ middle school basketball play with wins last Saturday.

Tucker, the Region 1 leader, knocked off Region 2 leader Druid Hills by a score of 42-34. Tucker (6-0, 3-0) was led by Jakobi Williams with 15 points. Donovan Smith and Omari Fernandez added 9 points each and Octavius Gresham contributed 8 points. Druid Hills fell to 4-2 on the season.

Redan 64, Miller Grove 27
The Redan Raiders are trying to take control in Region 3 following a 64-27 win over the Miller Grove Wolverines (3-3, 1-2). Redan (6-0, 4-0) got a huge game from Tristen Mitchell as he hit for 24 points. Noah Melton chipped in 10 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Stone Mountain 41, Peachtree 40
Ishmel Thompson hit for 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Stone Mountain Pirates (1-6) to a thrilling 41-40 win over the Peachtree Patriots (1-5) for their first win of the season. Carmello Graves added 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots for Stone Mountain. Peachtree countered with 19 points by Emerson Mitchell and 17 by Jack Lamb.

Columbia 37, Champion 23
Columbia (6-1) took advantage of eight straight turnovers by Champion (3-3) and never looked back in a 37-23 non-region game. Champion lost back-to-back games for the first time in six years.

Bethune 46, McNair 11
A balanced attack for the Bethune Lions (3-3, 2-1) provided a solid 46-11 Region 4 win over the McNair Mustangs (1-5, 0-3) to move the Lions into a second-place tie in Region 4. Jaylon Phillips led the way with 10 points and 6 rebounds for Bethune. He was joined by Dontavious Strainfield (9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Keshawn Briggs (9 points) in a three-pronged attack.

Henderson 57, Sequoyah 13
Henderson solidified its second place standing in Region 1 with a 57-13 win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-5, 0-4). Henderson (6-1, 3-1) was led by Zayd Muhammad’s 23-point, 7-steals performance in the win. Hani Siddiqui (7 points, 4 rebounds) and Tristan Hayes (6 points, 4 steals) played big roles for the Cougars.

Chamblee 37, Stephenson 18
The Chamblee Bulldogs went out of region to play the Stephenson Jaguars (1-5, 1-3) and upped their mark to 5-1 with a 37-18 win. The trio of Khamillo Wells, Houston Buck and Jaydon Avery keyed the win for the Bulldogs.
