DeKalb County wrestling programs are sending a strong contingent of wrestlers with 38 boys and 8 girls to the GHSA Traditional Wrestling State Tournament beginning Thursday at 9:00 am at the Macon Centreplex after qualifying out of their respective State Sectionals last weekend.
Class 3A Stone Mountain led the way with eight boys’ wrestlers and five girls’ to qualify from the Pike County Sectional with two boys and four girls coming out as one seeds.
The girls were led by Daisy Gilleylen, a 2019 state runner-up, who was the No. 1 finisher in the 132 weight class. Armani Mills (102), Maymunah Holiday (122) and Kiera Parsons (225) were the other top qualifiers for the Lady Pirates. Cirezi Hyvone (197) was second at the sectional.
The Pirates were led by David Allen (138) and Derick Price (152) as top qualifiers. Redan put three wrestlers into the Class 3A State Tournament led by No. 3 qualifier Joshua Graham (120).
The Class 5A Alexander Sectional pushed 11 boys and two girls into the state tournament. Southwest DeKalb had seven boys qualify led by Jahiem Williams (152) and Jeunte McCray (106) who both finished second falling the final match of their respective weight classes.

Arabia Mountain had three wrestlers (1 boy, 2 girls) qualify out of the sectional. Janyla Gunnerson (132) and Alana Scott (152) both went 2-1 in the sectional to qualify as the No. 2 seed in their respective weight classes. Ahroya Coley (126) was the lone Ram.
Miller Grove had a pair of wrestlers advance to state and Clarkston one.
The Class 6A Alexander Sectional produced 14 boys and one girl state qualifiers led by Dunwoody with six boys and one girl. The Wildcats were led by Charles McCown (220), a fifth place finisher at 195 a year ago, who went 3-1 to finish second in his class. Rose Lubin (112) out of Dunwoody qualified for state as a No. 2 with a 2-1 record.
Stephenson had five boys qualify for state led by Alex Sanders (128) and Micah Godwin (220) who both went 4-1 and finished third in their weight classes. Tucker added two boys and Martin Luther King Jr one to the Class 6A contingent.
Lakeside put a pair of wrestlers into the state tournament in Kevin Carranza (170, 8th) and second place finisher Micah Carrier (182).
