Tucker sophomore Altagracia “Gina” Frazier and Lakeside sophomore Emma Cohen qualified as individuals for Saturday’s (May 3) GHSA Dr. Lucia Norwood State Gymnastics Championships at Ola High School.
The pair were two of seven gymnasts to reach the state preliminaries held on April 27th at the Buford Arena including Lakeside’s Taylor Smith and Amelia Stockwell, Tucker’s Parker Parks, Arabia Mountain’s Ashlynn Carthan and Dunwoody’s Sidney Stetter.
Frazier qualified for the uneven parallel bars (9.450) and the floor exercise (9.200) in the state competition. Cohen picked up a qualifying score of 9.500 in the balance beam to reach state.
Frazier nipped Cohen 36.95 to 36.60 for the DeKalb County Championships All-Around title. She won gold in the vault (9.000), uneven parallel bars (9.400) and balance beam (9.700).
Cohen grabbed the gold in the floor exercise with an excellent score of 9.900 in leading her Lakeside team to its 22nd county title.
The state competition begins at 6:00 pm at Ola High School on Saturday.
