2017 DCSD Gymnastics Champions — Lakeside Lady Vikings
Placing three gymnasts in the Top 5 of the All Around competition propelled the Lakeside Lady Vikings to their second consecutive DCSD Gymnastics title 100.500-92.550 over host Dunwoody earlier this week.
Sophomore Amelia Stockwell won the All Around with a total of 34.100 to lead Lakeside to its fifth DCSD championship in the past six seasons and 20th overall in the 52 year history of the event.
Stockwell also collected a gold medal in the parallel uneven bars with a score of 8.800 and the balance beam with a top score of 8.700. She tied for fourth in both the vault (8.500) and floor exercise (8.100).
Senior Paige Munro finished fourth in the All Around with a 33.400 total collecting a silver in the vault (8.600) and balance beam (8.600) and a bronze on the parallel uneven bars (8.100). She also finished in a tie for fourth on the floor exercise (8.100).

Maja Jovanovic, another Lakeside sophomore collected a total score of 33.000 to finish fifth overall in the All Around. Jovanovic picked up a bronze in the floor exercise (8.200) and tied for the bronze in the balance beam (8.500).
Dunwoody finished second for the fifth time in six years with its total of 92.550 behind a sixth place finish by junior Anna Boss in the All Around (32.00).
Boss’ best performance on the night was a tie for the bronze medal on the balance beam (8.50).
Arabia Mountain, the 2016 runner-up, was just behind Dunwoody with a team total of 91.650 led by sophomore Noelle Senior.
Senior, last year’s All-Around champion, finished third this season with a total of 33.500. Senior picked up silver medals on the uneven bars (8.500) and the floor exercise (8.300).

Junior Mya Hemmingway played a big part in Redan’s 2015 title run and tried to pull the Raiders into the top spot this year with a pair of gold medal winning performances in the vault and floor exercise.
Hemmingway wowed the crowd on the vault with a double somersault off the table for the highest score of the meet at 9.500 to claim the gold medal. She would go to win the floor exercise with a score of 8.500.
The performance by Hemmingway put her in second place in the All Around with a 33.600 total, just .500 behind Stockwell. Redan finished fourth with an 84.850 team score.
Stephenson’s Isha’e Harris picked up a pair of fourth place ties to aid Stephenson’s fifth place finish with a team score of 81.100.
Arabia Mountain’s Mesha Brown won the Shirley McDaniel Senior Award.
Arabia Mountain senior Mesha Brown won the inaugural Shirley McDaniel Senior Award for her leadership, sportsmanship and being an excellent teammate.
The Award was named for longtime Lakeside gymnastics coach Shirley McDaniel who won four state championships and seven DeKalb County titles from 1972 to 1986. McDaniel being in attendance as one of the event judges presented the award to Brown.
