Sadie McMillen’s penalty kick into the right corner of the goal propelled the Lakeside Lady Vikings to victory over the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats at Adams Stadium and giving Lakeside the Region 4-5 No. 2 playoffs seed and first round host role in the state playoffs.
The two teams were knotted at 2-2 following regulation and overtime play to send the game into the penalty kick session.
Lakeside opened the session with goalkeeper Emory Kennett turning way the first two Dunwoody attempts while Eleanor McLaren and Anna Katz gave their squad an early 2-0 advantage.
Dunwoody rallied to not the session 2-2 aa Olivia Flores and Siler Corbett got shots past Kennett while Lakeside had one shot go wide and another hit the goal post.
Juju Martinez gave Dunwoody its first lead in the opening session as her shot hit the right goal post and went into the net to make it 3-2 in favor of the Wildcats.
Kate Kupronis kept Lakeside in the match with a shot into the net to make it 3-3 and sent the match into a second session of penalty kicks.
The two teams traded two made shots and two misses before Dunwoody’s Rainey Cuttino slipped a kick into the goal giving Dunwoody a 5-4 advantage. Lakeside’s Tait Ortlund answered with a tying make to knot it at 5-5.

A shot off the cross bar set up McMillen for the winning attempt as Lakeside (14-1, 6-1) secured the No. 2 seed and a host role against Newnan (9-7), the Region 3 No. 3 seed, on Tuesday at Adams Stadium with a time to be announced.
Dunwoody (10-6, 5-2) scored first in the game Olivia Flores found the corner of the net to make it 1-0 at the 36:01 mark of the first half.
Lakeside knotted the game on Abby Tract’s shot in front of the goal just under five minutes later making it 1-1.
The game took another turn towards Lakeside at the 27:09 mark as a free kick by Kate Kupronis was bodied into the net by Anna Katz for a 2-1 advantage that lasted until the second half clock hit 14:30.
Dunwoody tied the game as Flores’ corner kick was headed into the goal by Shelby Verlander to tie the game that went into the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Kennett finished the night with 13 saves including one with 2:07 left in the second overtime period to keep the match knotted at 2-2. Dunwoody’s Sophia Pristach had a pair of saves in overtime to keep the Wildcats tied with their county rival.
