The Lakeside Vikings came up short of clinching the Region 4-5A three-game series with the Woodward Academy War Eagles in a 6-5 loss at Lakeside on Wednesday evening.
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the fourth, the Vikings (14-7, 12-5) had a pair of errors open the door for three unearned runs as pitcher Aidan Conrad should have been out of the inning with a three-up, three-down for the War Eagles (16-4, 14-3).
Woodward got an RBI single by Spencer Norman and a two-run double by Graham Parker to go up 6-2.
Lakeside responded in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to pull within 6-5. Jayden Mosley hit a two-run homer over the left-center field fence and Parker Burst singled to left to score Andrew Booth.
A crucial double play in the top of the sixth kept the margin at one as a fly ball was caught with runners on second and third. Two runs scored but were nullified as the runner at third left too soon and was ruled out.
The Vikings got runners on base in the bottom of the sixth and seventh but could not push the tying run across as Woodward held on for the win.
Lakeside opened with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Jihad Guy singles, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rory Litchman. Guy scored on a ground out to third by Grant Jackson for the early lead.

Woodward took the lead in the third inning by putting up three runs. A grounder in the hole at short was stopped by a diving Micah Von, but he could not prevent a run from scoring and the batter reaching base. Landon Walker followed with a two-run homer for a 3-1 lead.
The Vikings pulled back within one on a two-out, RBI double by Mosley.
Mosley led the Vikings’ offensive attack going 3-4 with three RBI, a double and homerun, Litchman and Booth were both 2-3 as the Vikings outhit Woodward 10-8 in the game.
Pitcher Aidan Conrad went all seven innings for the Vikings allowing just three earned runs with four strikeouts and one walk in taking the hard luck loss on the mound.
Landan Walker was 2-4 with two RBI and homerun to lead Woodward while Graham Reker was 2-3 with two RBI and a double.
The two teams battle for the series win today (Thursday) at 6:00 pm at Woodward.
