
The Martin Luther King Jr. boys’ track team won its first ever DCSD Junior Varsity Track Championships title held recently at Adams Stadium. The Lions totaled 14 medals to win 143-124 over Arabia Mountain.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions track team won its first Junior Varsity Boys’ County Championships Title at the meet held recently at Adams Stadium.
King pulled in 14 total medals (2 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze) on the way to compiling 143 points to relegate the Arabia Mountain Rams (124) to a second consecutive second place finish.
King swept the pole vault led by Jeremy Mathis who won on a jump as he and teammate Carlos Desinor tied at eight feet, six inches. Andre Threats finished third (7-00.00) in the event.
Lions’ freshman Nehemiah Brown won the shot put (36-07.50) for the other gold medal for his squad.
Arabia Mountain collected seven gold medals on the way to 10 total for its second place finish, four in the field events and two relay victories.
Field event winners for Arabia Mountain included David Odukwe who tied the record of six feet held by two others to win the high jump. Other field event winners were Mathew Williams in the discus (112-04.00), Jakeir Caines in the triple jump (43-00.00) and Joshua Owens in the long jump (20-09.00). The Rams got a 1-2 finish in the triple jump as Tyler Warren (41-05.00) joined Caines in the triple jump.
The other individual event winner was Myikel Bonham in the 300-meter hurdles (44.49).
Arabia Mountain also picked up gold medals in the 4×400-meter relay (3:34.57) and the 4×800-meter relay (8:54.97).

Stephenson matched Arabia Mountain’s 10 medal total in finishing third (86) including four gold medals. It was the Jaguars second consecutive third-place finish.
Jaguar freshman Demario Minter Jr. swept the 100-meter (11.12) and 200-meter (22.76) dashes as the only participant to win two individual gold medals.
Ayo McKerson made it a Stephenson sweep of the sprint races with a win in the 400-meter dash (51.06) and the 4×200-meter relay team won in a time of 1:31.60, just 0.06 ahead of the King relay team.
Dunwoody took the titles in the 800-meter run (Lawson Conner (2:08.15) and 1600-meter run (Jensen Elwell, 4:54.11). Lakeside’s Jack Newman closed out the distance races with a win in the 3200-meter run (11:17.76).
Druid Hills captured a gold medal as Jaydan Gatling won the 110-meter hurdles (16.77) and Lithonia won the 4×100-meter relay (43.88).
