A 7-0 second quarter run propelled the Druid Hills Red Devils to a 15-2 high school girls’ lacrosse victory over the Southwest DeKalb Panthers at North DeKalb Stadium on Tuesday night.

Druid Hills (3-1) held a slim 2-1 lead as the two teams entered play in the second quarter. The Red Devils hit back-to-back goals in less than a minute into the period as Maddie Little (10:03) and Violet Kilfeather (9:11) upped the lead to 4-1.

Naomi Tester scored back-to-back goals of her own for Druid Hills in a span of 1:28 putting the ball into the net at the 7:38 and 6:10 marks of the second quarter.

Druid Hills scored three more goals in the final 2:28 of the first half started by Cait Schuckenbrock’s goal (2:28), Kilfeather’s second goal of the period (1:08) and Mariah Casurra (9.8) to take a commanding 9-1 lead into halftime.

Southwest DeKalb keeper Aniyah Davis had seven saves in the first half as the Red Devils outshot the Panthers by 13 shots in the first half.

The scoring slowed down in the second half despite the Red Devils scoring less than two minutes into the third period on the first of two Elise Langdon goals in the second half.

Davis had three consecutive saves at one point in the third period and Panthers countered with Shariah Stanley’s second goal of the game (6:15) that was sandwiched by a pair of goals by Druid Hills’ Emma Piotrowicz as the lead increased to 12-2 heading into the fourth quarter.

Langdon picked up her second goal of the second half with 7:16 to play and Kilfeather followed soon after with her third goal (4:20) to get the hattrick.

Morgan Hampton closed out the scoring with two minutes to play for the final of 15-2.

The highly contested first quarter got the scoring off to quick start as Claire Hamrick gave Druid Hills an early 1-0 less than a minute into the game.

Another Druid Hills goal was disallowed before Southwest’s Stanley knotted the game at 1-1 with 5:35 left in the period.

Gabbi Dalton weaved her way to the front of the goal for a score with 1:55 left in the first quarter to give Druid Hills the lead for good at 2-1.

Davis finished with 15 saves for the game in goal for Southwest DeKalb (0-2). Druid Hills keeper Gabrielle Redding only faced five shots by the Panthers picking up a pair of saves.
