A goal right out of halftime was the deciding factor for the Chamblee Bulldogs in a hard fought 1-0 Region 4-5A boys’ high school victory over the Dunwoody Wildcats at North DeKalb Stadium on Thursday night.
Chamblee (5-4, 2-0) outshot Dunwoody (0-7-1, 0-2) twelve to five in the first half as both goal keepers turned away shots by the opposing team throughout.
Chamblee’s Eli Ritchey had three saves out of five of the shots by Dunwoody all before the 12:49 mark of the first half.
Dunwoody keeper Cam Stinson collected five saves including one just before the half ended to keep the teams tied at 0-0 heading into the break.
Chamblee quickly got up the field as the second opened and Jefferson Lopez put one in the goal just one minute and 20 seconds into the half that would be the deciding shot of the game.
Both teams shot numbers dropped in the physical second half with Chamblee holding a 4-2 edge as time ticked under one minute to play.
Dunwoody got the ball into the box as the clock ticked under 26 seconds, but the Chamblee defenders blocked a pair of attempts by the Wildcats to hold on for the 1-0 victory and a sweep of the Dunwoody teams.
