Chamblee led three Top 10 finishes in the Class 5A Boys’ State Swim Meet taking third place overall scoring 261 points to finish behind Johns Creek and Lassiter at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center this past weekend.
Senior Ian Combs fueled the third place finish bringing home a pair of individual medals. Combs swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:48.45 dropping 5.41 seconds off his state qualifying time.
He then went on to grab a silver medal in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.40 that was 4.46 second faster than his qualifying time and finishing just 0.40 seconds behind the winner. Teammate Thomas Adam finished in third behind Combs for the bronze.
Combs opened the meet joining teammates Thomas Adam, Garrett Peters and Alexander Alexandrova in winning a bronze medal in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.51).
Peter Vrazel joined Combs, Adam and Peters in the 200-yard freestyle relay to also pick up a bronze medal.

Dunwoody’s Luke Sandberg became a four-time state swim meet gold medalist with two wins at the recent state competition. Sandberg won both the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events. It was this third consecutive win in the 200.
Dunwoody edged out Lakeside for sixth place with 206 points to 200 for the Vikings behind the two gold medal winning performance by Luke Sandberg.
Sandberg won his third consecutive gold in the 200-yard freestyle at the state meet swimming his best time over the three years of 1:38.00 dropping 2.73 seconds off his qualifying time. He then went on to take the 100-yard freestyle gold with a time of 44.33, an event he finished second in a year ago. He knocked 4.46 seconds off his state qualifying time.
Dunwoody’s Luke Amerson collected a silver in the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.21) and a bronze in the 100-yard backstroke (51.20).
Sandberg and Amerson teamed up with Andrew Halligan and Graham Chang to swim to the gold in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.90 which was 4.29 seconds lower than the squad’s qualifying time.
Lakeside’s best overall performance came from Elijah Peterson. Peterson picked up a bronze in the 100-yard freestyle (46.53, 2.2 seconds off the pace) and finished Top 5 in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.53).
Lakeside added a fifth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.99) and sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.02).
GIRLS CLASS 5A
Chamblee finished in the Top 10 and Lakeside was 13th to lead the girl’s competition in the Class 5A state meet.
Mena Alexandrova finished fourth in two events to lead Chamblee. Alexandrova was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.27) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.07).
Chamblee also picked up a sixth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42.32).
Lakeside got eight place finishes from Aliyah Hawkins in the 100-yard freestyle (54.76) and by Ansley Webb in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.14.)
Dunwoody finished 19th overall out of 33 teams led by Reese Benton’s seventh place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.55).
