
Arabia Mountain’s Aniya McIver is 28-1 on the season and eying a state tournament gold after winning the 155 division Area 2 title at Greenbrier.
The Arabia Mountain Lady Rams grabbed two gold and two silver medals on the way to a fourth place finish in the Area 2 Girls Wrestling Tournament at Greenbrier High School.
All four wrestlers earned berths into Friday’s State Sectional A Tournament at Houston County and are joined by Clarkston (2), Lithonia (1), Southwest DeKalb (2) and Tucker (1).
Arabia’s Aniya McIver (28-1) has piled up the wins in 2025 after finishing fourth in the state tournament last year. She won three consecutive matches on the way to the 155 division title at the Area 2 meet including a fall (1:05) against Charlton County’s Chloe Mayer, an 18-3 technical fall victory over Joy Dyer of Evans and a pin fall (0:30) over Dodge County’s Tamiah Benefield in the finals.
McIver’s teammate Ariyonna Amin Williams (20-6) joined her atop the winner’s podium by sweeping to the 170 title in three consecutive pin falls including a win over Grace Rester of Evans in the championship match.
Destiny T-Smith (19-5) claimed silver at 135 winning her first two matches by pin fall. Brooke Freeman (17-3) also made the podium as a runner-up at 140.
Tucker’s Zuri McCalpine-Ingram (45-6) qualified for the state sectional with a gold medal performance at 125. Ingram won her first two matches by technical falls and then pinned Baldwin’s Jacey Quinn just 3:57 into the match.
Lithonia’s Serenity Evans opened the tournament at 120 with pins over Izoria Smith (Heritage, 1:31) and Anastasia Sirmans (Jeff Davis, 0:39). She then dropped a tough 8-6 decision to Greenbrier’s Esperanza Huitron in the finals.
Southwest DeKalb put a pair of wrestlers through to the state sectional in Sandy Bostic (17-6) at 170 and Nyla Blair (9-5) at 190 as both brought home bronze medals from the competition.
Clarkston also got two state sectional qualifiers as Victoria Cross at 105 and Soe Ner Daw at 110 grabbed the final state berths with fourth place finishes.
Over at the Area 4 Tournament in Collins Hill Stephenson and Stone Mountain qualified one wrestler from each team for the State Sectional B at Central Gwinnett on Friday.
Stephenson’s Princess Marshall went 4-1 in the tournament securing a bronze medal with a pin fall (2:13) over Norcross’s Melodee Jones. Marshall reached the main draw semifinals before a loss knocked her into the consolation side of the bracket.
Stone Mountain’s Nishimwe Alice (11-6) dropped her first round match via pin fall but rallied with four consecutive pin fall wins of her own to reach the third place match before falling to Jordan Stevens (Mill Creek) by pin fall to finish fourth.
DeKalb finished with 12 girls qualifying for the state sectional round and a chance to reach the GHSA State Championships in Macon.
