Two girls’ and two boys’ junior varsity basketball teams moved into the quarterfinals of the DeKalb County Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament with victories on Wednesday night.

The Stephenson Jaguars (7-4) moved forward in the tournament with a 58-47 road win at the Dunwoody Wildcats (7-4) to open the play-in round. Stephenson got a game-high 20 points from Amir Nevers in the win.

Stephenson moves into the quarterfinals to take on the undefeated Cedar Grove Saints (9-0) on the road in a 3:30 pm game at Cedar Grove on Saturday.

McNair 50, Arabia Mountain 40
The McNair Mustangs (8-3) finished their first round host role with a 50-40 victory over the Arabia Mountain Rams (5-5) on Wednesday night. Dennis Johnson hit for a game-high 23 points to lead the Mustangs. Neil Maxwell (key rebounds and blocks) and Rashad Blalock contributed to the win.

McNair heads into the quarterfinals with a road game against the Southwest DeKalb Panthers (8-1) at 11:00 am on Saturday.

Other quarterfinal games feature Chamblee (7-2) hosting Redan (6-4) and Columbia (8-2) hosting Tucker (6-3). Both games are set for 10:00 am tipoffs.

GIRLS RECAPS
The Cedar Grove Lady Saints (5-5) moved into the quarterfinals of the girls’ bracket with a 51-36 win over the Clarkston Lady Angoras (7-4). Cedar Grove travels to No. 1 seed Stephenson (9-0) for a 10:00 tip on Saturday.

In the other play-in game, the McNair Lady Mustangs (5-6) pulled off a slight upset of No. 4 seeded Arabia Mountain (5-5) to advance to the quarterfinals. McNair travels to No. 1 seed Lithonia (9-0) for a 10:00 am game on Saturday.

Other quarterfinal games feature No. 3 seed Columbia (8-2) at No. 2 seed Lakeside (7-3) and No. 3 seed Decatur (7-2) at No. 2 seed Southwest DeKalb (8-1). Both games are set for 10:00 am tipoffs.
