A 9-0 run in the fourth quarter flipped a three-point deficit into a six-point lead as the Chamblee Bulldogs rallied for a 63-60 road win over the Dunwoody Wildcats in 63-60 Region 4-5A boys’ high school basketball play at Dunwoody on Friday night.
Dunwoody’s Emerson Mitchell hit a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats (7-12, 4-5) a 51-48 lead with 7:17 to play in the game.
Chamblee then responded with its 9-0 run as Simeon Stephens had a pair of drives to the basket and a free throw to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Two free throws and an offensive put back by Eston McDow pushed the Chamblee advantage out to 57-51 with 4:49 to play in the game.
Dunwoody closed it back to a one-point game on a basket by Mitchell and an old-fashioned three-point play by Eli Merritt with 2:16 remaining.
Rasean Robertson scored on a quick pass from Stephens and Meyer started a drive and hit a pull-up jumper to extend the lead to 61-56 with 1:03 left on the game clock.
Robertson drove for another basket but missed the and-one for a 63-58 lead for the Bulldogs with 38 seconds to play in the game.
Mitchell hustled up the floor and drove in for a layup with 32 seconds remaining to close the gap to 63-60. The Dunwoody pressure following the inbounds play turned into a 10-second call as the Bulldogs failed to get the ball past halfcourt.

Dunwoody called timeout and worked the clock down before Mitchell took a contested three-pointer that bounced off the rim into the hands of Dunwoody’s Matt Cargile. With the time ticking off the clock and the Wildcats needing a three-pointer, Cargile got the ball out past the three-point line to Eli Merritt who got off a desperation three-pointer that went high off the backboard as the buzzer sounded.
The teams were tied 18-18 early in the second quarter when Cargile took over to score eight points, including a three-pointer, which put the Wildcats in the lead 36-30 with 5:15 to play in the opening half.
Jackson Vanke added a pair of baskets in the final 2:12 of the half to help Dunwoody to a 37-33 lead at the half.
Arai Meyer finished with 16 points to lead the Bulldogs (13-6, 4-4) group of four in double figures. Joining Meyer in double figures were Simeon Stephens with 14 points, Rasean Roberston with 11 points and six rebounds and Eston McDow with points.
Matt Cargile finished the night with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead a trio of Wildcats in double figures including Emerson Mitchell with 14 points and Eli Merritt with 13 points.
