Lakeside High School swim coach and Athletic Director Tricia Newmyer was recently named 2024 Swim Coach of the Year and 2025 Athletic Director of the Year for Region 4-5A.
“I am humbled and honored to receive the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) and Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Coach of the Year for 2023-24 along with the Region AD of the Year awards”, said Newmyer. “There are so many great swim coaches across the state of Georgia, that I have worked with in my 18 years of high school coaching.”
Newmyer’s 2024 Lakeside Lady Vikings swam to a fourth place finish in the Class 6A state swim meet last winter. Sophia Hook was one of two swimmers to take gold as she won both the 50- and 100-freestyle races and teammate Lyla Richards won the 200 individual medley and a silver in the 100-meter breaststroke. Another silver medal came in the 200-meter freestyle as well with Katelyn McClintock finishing second. The four-hundred meter relay and 200-meter medley relays squads brought home silver medals as well.
“In DeKalb, there are also wonderful swim coaches promoting the sport and working very hard with the student athletes of our county,” continued Newmyer.
The state honor qualifies her for the NFHS sectional and national honors. She is set to be honored for the Coach of the Year accolades in a pregame presentation for the GHSA Coaches of the Year prior to the 7:00 pm football state championship game on Monday, December 16 at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Region 4-5A recently named her the Athletic Director of the Year as she served as President of the region with the zeal she puts into coaching swimming.
“I am very happy to have served Region 4-5A as the President with such a great group of athletic directors that put in the work together to serve the coaches and athletes of our region,” said Newmyer.
