The Miller Grove Wolverines and Chamblee Bulldogs are set to host the second round of the GHSA girls’ fastpitch softball state playoffs this week as the two remaining DeKalb County teams.

Both teams would advance to the state tournament in Columbus on October 30-November 2.

Miller Grove (17-2) plays host to Thomson (10-10) on Tuesday at 2:00 pm for a doubleheader to start their Class 2A best-of-three series. A third game, if necessary, is set for a 4:00 pm start on Wednesday.

Miller Grove swept Hardaway (11-13) by scores of 8-0 and 13-1 to advance to the Sweet 16 for just the second time in program history.

Thomson swept Sumter County 10-6 and 23-12 in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs to advance to face Miller Grove.

The Miller Grove (5 see)/Thomson (12 seed) winners advances to Columbus to face the Stephens County (13 seed)/Columbus (4 seed) on October 30 at 11:00 am.

Chamblee (25-5) knocked off Dutchtown in a 17-0 and 20-1 sweep of their opening best-of-three series in Class 5A state playoff action on Friday.

Chamblee is in the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive and this year marks the 15th consecutive in the state playoffs. A win in the series against Creekview would send the Bulldogs to the state tournament Elite 8 for the third time in four seasons as the senior class has now won 102 games to break the DeKalb County senior class record (4 years).

Creekview swept Roswell in the first round by identical score of 8-0 to advance to the Sweet 16 to face off with Chamblee.

Newnan 9, Lakeside 7
The Lakeside Vikings came up a game short of reaching the Sweet 16 of the Class 5A state playoffs as the Newnan Cougars won the third and deciding game of their first round best-of-three series 9-7.

Lakeside and Coach Brian Granger set a new wins mark for the Viking program going 20-6 this season. It broke the mark of 19-11 set in 2012.
