The Dunwoody Wilcats ran to their second DeKalb County Junior Varsity Boys’ Championships title in the past three seasons.

Five Dunwoody Wildcats finished in the Top 14 at the 2024 DeKalb County Junior Varsity Boys Cross Country Championships to collect their second county title in the past three seasons and sixth overall at the Druid Hills Middle School course.

Chamblee, the defending champion, was eight points (45-53) behind the Wildcats in second followed by Southwest DeKalb (74) in third. Lakeside (126), an 11-time champion, finished fourth followed in order by Tucker (133), Martin Luther King Jr. (172), Clarkston (199), Druid Hills (201), Arabia Mountain (216), Towers (228) and Columbia (287).

Dunwoody freshman Alex Marcus (12:23.10) led the Wildcat charge taking the bronze medal in the individual competition and was joined in the Top 10 by teammates freshman Jack Newsom (12:35.80) and sophomore Jared Katz (12:52.90). Freshmen Rocco Koekemoer (13:06.50) was 13th and Lawson Conner (13:07.50) was 14th as the five Wildcats all finished within 45 seconds of each other.

Chamblee also put three runners in the Top 10 led by silver medalist sophomore Ian Mathews (12:10.40) who was just .20 of a second behind individual champ Amari Scott (12:10.20) of Southwest DeKalb. Sophomore Maximo Luciana (12:41.60) was the Bulldogs second best finisher in seventh and sophomore Aaron Crabbe (12:51.00) was ninth.

Southwest DeKalb also grabbed three Top 10 spots led by Scott’s individual title. Fellow sophomores Terrence SwSwift (12:31.70) and Slater Thorpe (12:48.50) were fourth and eighth, respectively.

Fourth place Lakeside picked up one Top 10 finish as freshman Isaac Moore (12:38.00) crossed in sixth.

The varsity county championships are set for a 5:30 pm start on Tuesday, October 8 at the Druid Hills Middle School course. Clarkston has won four of the last five boys’ titles and goes for a repeat. Druid Hills broke up the Clarkston titles led by state champ Sage Walker in 2021.
