The Druid Hills Lady Dragons claimed a second consecutive DCSD Middle School Volleyball Slam title with a 25-16, 25-12 win over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs.

The Druid Hills Lady Dragons claimed a second consecutive DCSD Middle School Volleyball Slam title with a 25-16, 25-12 win over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs.

The Druid Hills Lady Dragons went undefeated through pool play and bracket play to capture the 2024 DeKalb County Schools Middle School Volleyball Slam title.

Druid Hills lost just one set in its wins on the way to the title for the second consecutive season including the championship match 25-16, 25-12 win over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs.

Wins over Sequoyah (25-6, 25-14), Stephenson (25-9, 25-12) and Stone Mountain (25-13, 25-11) gave Druid Hills the pool win to advance to the semifinals against the Freedom Lady Rams. Freedom defeated Henderson (25-20, 25-19) and Redan (25-6, 25-13) and split sets with Bethune (25-18, 20-25) to take the pool title and advance.

Druid Hills won the opening set 25-7 only to have Freedom bounce back with a thrilling 26-24 win to send the match to a tiebreaker. Druid Hills won the tiebreaker 15-12 to move into the finals.

Chamblee won its pool with wins over Beacon Hill (26-24, 25-21), Miller Grove (25-11, 25-11) and Tucker (25-18, 25-12) to reach the semifinals Match against Peachtree. Peachtree won its pool play with wins over Champion (25-17, 25-17) and Salem (25-9, 25-16) to reach the match against Chamblee.

Peachtree won the opening set 25-18 before Chamblee forced the third set tiebreaker with a 25-16 victory in the second set. Chamblee locked up the match with a 15-10 win in the tiebreaker.

Druid Hills’ Alana Umlauf was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for her strong contribution to the Lady Dragons victories along the way.
