Inclement weather moving into the Atlanta Metro Area this week due to hurricane Helene has forced changes to the DeKalb County football schedule this weekend.
Two Thursday night contests have been moved to today (Wednesday) in the effort to avoid some of the weather coming into the area.
The Region 4-5A matchups featuring Tri-Cities (4-0, 2-0) and Lakeside (3-2, 2-0) and Northview (0-5, 0-3) versus Tucker (3-1, 2-0) are set for play at 6:30 pm tonight. The Tri-Cities/Lakeside game is set for Adams Stadium while Tucker hosts Northview at North DeKalb Stadium.
Three other Thursday night games are moving to 5:30 pm starts at their respective DeKalb Stadiums. Cross Keys (0-4) is set to meet Flint River (6-0) at Cobb Stadium, Towers (2-2) is hosting Southwest Whitfield (0-6) at Godfrey Stadium and Stone Mountain (0-6) has homecomings against Salem (1-4) at Hallford Stadium.
The Thursday games could still be moved to Saturday if the weather is deemed to be too severe for play as the district wants to ensure the safety of the participants and fans.
Friday’s schedule is set to bet the same headlined by an all-DeKalb Region 5-4A matchup between the Druid Hills Red Devils (2-3, 0-2) and Lithonia Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1) at Godfrey Stadium at 7:30 pm.
The last time the two teams met on the football field was 1997, a 53-0 win by the Bulldogs, gave Lithonia a 9-3 lead in the series that was first played in 1950. Lithonia has won the last six meetings since a 14-7 win by Druid Hills in 1976.
McNair (2-3, 0-1) hosts No. 9 ranked Lamar County (3-1, 0-0) in a Division 1-Region 4 meeting at 7:30 on Friday night at Adams Stadium. It is the first meeting for the two schools as the Mustangs look to bounce back from a hard-fought 37-45 loss to Putnam County last weekend.
Hallford Stadium plays host to homecoming night for the Stephenson Jaguars (2-3, 0-1) in a key Region 5-3A meeting with North Clayton (3-2, 1-0) as the Jaguars look to rebound following a tough 20-14 loss to Mt. Zion in their region opener. North Clayton has a region win over Riverdale thus far on the season.
The Dunwoody Wildcats (1-4, 0-2) are coming off back-to-back heartbreaking Region 4-5A losses and take on undefeated Decatur (5-0, 2-0) in a 7:30 pm kickoff at North DeKalb Stadium. The two schools both located in DeKalb County have only met once, a Decatur win in 2021.
A non-region matchup is set for Cobb Stadium with the Columbia Eagles (0-5) hosting the No. 5 ranked Douglas County Tigers (4-1) at 7:30 pm. The Eagles have faced a schedule so far featuring four other Top 10 ranked teams which are all higher classification schools. It is the first ever meeting between the Eagles and Tigers.
